Working as a bartender while her peers move on with careers and marriage, Billie Culpepper fears she will never discover her true vocation in life, until fate intercedes in the form of a mysterious Englishman who hints that she is more than she appears to be. Caught in the crossfire between the stranger and the police detective chasing him, Billie is knocked into a coma for three days. When she wakes, she is assaulted by horrific apparitions that no one else can see. She thinks she's losing her mind until the Englishman reveals that her eyes are finally open to the spookshow all around them. Billie can now see the dead and, unfortunately, they can see her too.
Like the wave from a magic wand, Billie learns that her destiny is life is to be a medium between our world and the one beyond. There's only one snag: it's the last thing on earth she wants.
