Tazara Bell inherits Belladonna Beauty from her grandmother, Odessa—and one terrifying instruction:Burn the salon before sunset on the seventh day after my funeral.Don’t enter the basement.Don’t take photographs inside. And if you hear me calling your name… that ain’t me.Tazara plans to clean the abandoned salon out, sell it, and move on. Then an old Polaroid camera begins taking pictures by itself. The first photograph shows Tazara, her mother, and her daughter standing inside the salon. But there are four people in the picture.Grandma Odessa is standing behind them.Dead six days.Smiling.Soon the powerless hooded dryers begin turning on at night. Voices call Tazara’s name from inside them. Photographs appear showing things that haven’t happened yet. And one picture shows a four-year-old girl wearing the exact dress Tazara wore as a child. On the back are two words:RETURNED — 1998.That’s when Tazara learns the secret her family buried for twenty-eight years. She died when she was four.Belladonna Beauty brought her back. But the salon doesn’t resurrect the dead.It replaces them.Twenty years ago, seven women disappeared from Belladonna Beauty. They weren’t victims. They were payments. Now the salon wants another one.And this time, Tazara’s daughter may be next.WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT HER DEAD is a dark supernatural horror novel about inherited curses, buried family secrets, terrifying photographs, and the horrifying price of bringing someone back who was supposed to stay dead.©2026 Latoya Cunningham (P)2026 Latoya Cunningham African American Genre Fiction Suspense Thriller & Suspense
