Description

There’s more to winning battles than fists and feet

For world-renowned professional fighter Georges St-Pierre, the greatest asset is not physical strength or athleticism - it’s a sense of purpose. From his beginnings as a small, mercilessly bullied child first discovering karate to his years as a struggling garbage collector who spent all his free time in the gym, his hard-fought rise in the sport of mixed martial arts, and his long, painful recovery from a career-threatening injury, Georges never lost sight of his ambition to become the greatest martial artist of all time. In The Way of the Fight, Georges for the first time reveals what propelled him not only to become a champion but to embrace obstacles as opportunities to build character.

Georges’ story is interwoven with fascinating insights from those who know him best: his mother, who tells of his drive to master new skills, even as a child. His mentor Kristof Midoux, who describes a young fighter with an extraordinary sense of discipline. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teacher John Danaher, who witnessed the development of an indomitable work ethic. His coach Firas Zahabi, who worked alongside the champion through a potentially career-ending injury. And his longtime friend, training partner and manager, Rodolphe Beaulieu, who may understand this intensely focused athlete more than anyone.

The Way of the Fight is an inspirational look into the mindset of a master. To Georges, all life is competition, and there’s no more perfect metaphor for competition than the life of a fighter. He explains the value of discipline, risk and even fear, with the wisdom of one who knows that nothing is assured - his next fight could always be his last. Drawing inspiration from fighting legends, Eastern philosophy and a trusted inner circle, The Way of the Fight is a powerful, life-changing guide to living with purpose and finding the way to accomplish your loftiest goals.

Great! Great Book

This book is outstanding a lot of ways particularly in how it dispenses with advice. George is a very intelligent athlete and a class act all around. The story of his life is very interesting. What I found particularly useful was the talks he gave about fear and anxiety. The only shortcoming of this book I can point to is the abysmal narration. Many a great book on audible has been ruined by a subpar narrator and this book almost fell into that category. However. I think the book is well worth your time to listen to and I think you'll enjoy greatly.

Filled with cliches and abrupt interruptions

Each chapter interrupted by a third person over and over. Too many cliches for my taste too. I feel like the book doesn't have much depth. You probably should have interest in fighting beforehand otherwise the long winded descriptions of his career will be dull. The third person interruptions are demoralizing. You want George to continue on a train of thought and just when it's getting good his trainer or mother cuts him off with some unrelated information.

Well done George

This book was not only a perfect fit for anyone struggling with motivation, anxiety, or most specifically “fear” as a negative source within your life. George’s words are astonishingly poetic and he truly welcomes you into his worldview both physical and philosophically. Stone did a phenomenal job narrating and I could not have enjoyed this book more!

Unusual

I was looking for wisdom, statistics on a development of a martial arts athlete and fighter. GSP book is unusually structured. It was a struggle to get through some chapters, but I discovered how one develops into a MMA champion and martial artist. Some very, very pleasing to ears words, that open me up, some deep MMA technical points and athletes I am not able to comment on.

Insight for the Humble Warrior

GSP is an inspiration to many. the opportunity to see what has driven him as an individual, his thoughts on different matters throughout his life thus far, and the dual view point from Firas gives you the unique experience of being able to process, understand and effectively execute the methods and key points GSP has presented within his work, his life and this book. Absolutely thrilled to have learned more than ever before from this book. Thank you!

Very good

It's a great book. However, sometimes is difficult to know who is talking (George or one of his team members) as it is not marked as it should be.

Amazing book

This book not only made me love GSP more, but it also made me appreciate life a whole lot more. It helped me realize that anything in life is possible. Thanks again for a fantastic book

Side Note
If the narrator's voice gets annoying, imagine the book being read to you by GSP. Since he has a unique voice, it was easy for me to visualize that and helped me finish the book a lot faster.
