Do Not Get This

The story starts out interestingly enough but never rises above an R rated YA novel. About half way through you'll probably start thinking, "This isn't one of those book where it turns out..." but you'll say, "No Way! That plot twist has been done to death." So you'll keep reading and discover IT IS.

The plot twist/surprise ending is totally lame. Save your time and money. Just watch an episode of Law and Order because even they had an episode with this played out premise.

Not even close to as good as her other books

Not up to par with Lauren Oliver's other books. The story was boring until the final chapter which had a twist but didn't make up for the lack of story to that point. I'm a huge fan of the Delerium series and highly recommend all 3 of those books but wouldn't waste a credit on this one.

The twist was more like a fizzle

I have a serious love/hate relationship with this author. I loved Before I Fall and the Delirium Trilogy but hated Panic and was seriously disappointed with Vanishing Girls. The plot twist in this book was so contrived that I saw it coming from a mile away. These sort of gimmicks rarely work and in this case it was an epic fail.

this story lacked something

I really kept hoping it was gonna get better pick up a little but it never did. The authors attempt at a twist fell flat because the story itself lacked depth.

How did this come from this author?

I fell in love with Lauren Oliver from her trilogy. Can't even figure out how this book happened. It was painful! I am one of those people that keeps hanging on until the end. I keep thinking a horrible movie or book HAS to get better. Not so here.

One of the main characters is so unlikable, you just don't care what happens to her, partly because it is sooooooo drug out. It jumps all over, in a bad way. A missing girl turns up to be hiding on a beach under a tarp because she was scared? Of what? No one was keeping her. She saw something scary. Yes, then she could have just walked to a road, but chose not to. No explanation for that. That's just stupid.
A teenage love triangle is mangled into something uninteresting.
And the main plot makes WILD leaps of logic to get where its going, which is then treated like an epilogue its so brief. Girl goes to police for help, then runs when they show up? In one scene, the character is frightened by a sound knowing someone is there. Yet the bad guy catches her off guard when he finds her? What? She was hiding from him!
Then comes the REAL punchline, which is not even logical. Is this an excuse for the entire book? There are way too many things earlier in the book that make it not possible. Ugh!

Skip this one. I'm afraid to try another book by Lauren. Maybe if this one was her first. The release date on Audible doesn't seem like it, but maybe they just waited to produce it until she proved popular. No matter, they should have skipped it.

Good, but slow

I enjoyed the book and when it got to the good Part it was really engaging, but it just took SOOO long to get there, I almost gave up a few times.

Entertaining but many flaws

First, I have to say Before I Fall is one of my favorite YA books. But unfortunately that was the first Lauren Oliver book I listened to and while I mostly enjoyed the Delirium Trilogy, almost every book of hers has let me down since. This was better than Panic, but only a little. However, it held my attention even though after I finished it, I just didn't feel as moved as I did with Before I Fall. (The only audio book I've listened to twice.) I think I may have liked this book better if I had a sister close in age to me. I also felt like Lauren was heavily influenced by E. Lockhart's We Were Liars. The best parts of the book were at the amusement park. I enjoyed the characters there and some of the comedic moments as well. I laughed out loud at one scene in particular. So this is overall worth listening too if you are in the mood for an easy YA book, or if you have a sister close in age.

Like em scary...BOO

The narrator was Great! The story was good! I got a little confused & sad at times but it had a happy ending! If you have a sister it will make you take note & think. Thanks!

Great Story

the story is good, the plot twist and everything, it took me a while to puzzle everything, it did made sense once I reached the ending. I like how the author writes, very detailed. I didn’t mind how slow the story goes since these types of novel needs patience and understanding.
