Description

Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn't off to a good start. Her first assignment - decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby - results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company's second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper. Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She's determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.

Regret.

I regret spending the money on this audio version of this book...the story itself is good but the narration was so awful.. I literally wanted to scream listening to this women's breathy voice! I really wish the Editors and Authors would listen to the narration before putting these out...it truly ruins a good book when you have a bad Narrator. I recommend reading the book and passing on this Audible version.

READ THE BOOK - DON'T LISTEN TO IT!!!!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story no! Definitely needed a different narrator.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

The voices sounding more realistic. They sounded so fake that it was hard to listen to. I really liked the story line but often cringed with the voices.

Good story, narrator lackluster.

By chapter 2, I was hooked on the story, but the narrator performs all dialog with an annoying sing-song-ish cadence. But I’m already hooked on the story, so I will have to suffer through his torture for an additional 9 hours. God help me.

Terrible Narrator!

What would have made Under a Falling Star better?

The narration

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't know. I couldn't get a feel for the characters through the narration.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Shawn Marie Bryan?

Anybody

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story has promise, but the narration was so awful it was IMPOSSIBLE to track the plot.

Any additional comments?

Needs. A new. Narrator.

I loved this book.

I loved this book. I had already read it. But really enjoyed this Audible. It is a great story w/ Austen and Dee. I admit the ending is what I hoped for. I don't want to give it away, but it's the ending I wanted. Thanks to Audible for adding Jae to their collection.

I loved this story, a great way to escape

Would you listen to Under a Falling Star again? Why?

Yes, because I have read this book 3 times and it is a fun romance to escape into. I love reading this author's books.

What did you like best about this story?

The romance that unfolds and how they get to it, which is what this book is about. The time it takes to take charge of oneself and to have the courage to say no, which was the ending. Plus the corporate nonsense and rumors made it comical.

Which character – as performed by Shawn Marie Bryan – was your favorite?

Probably Austin and Tim. I will say I did not like the authors voice for Dee, but that is just my feelings. The narrator knows how to put emotion into place. This is not my first time listening to this narrator.

Who was the most memorable character of Under a Falling Star and why?

Dee and Austin, but Dee father and Uncle, have short but very decisive roles you can't forget. They are the basis for how Dee is portrayed prior to Austin's introduction into the book and the character and personality she falls back into at various points throughout the story.

Any additional comments?

I loved the book, and have read it at least 3 times in the past. I was looking forward to any audible from Jae. This was a great story to do as an audible book. The reader’s emotions, tempo, enthusiasm and vocal quality was great for this story. Love the various sound affects too, great job. My only criticism is I thought the narrator’s voice was too old sounding for Dee’s character. I know Dee’s role comes off as a matron type person given her story’s personality. But she sounded like she was in her 60’s and too mature for what I envisioned her voice to be. I got use to her voice after an hour. But it was not the voice I expected. I have listened to this narrator in the past and she does a great job, I just thought it was not quite the right role for her. I would still recommend the audible version, because it is a great story to tell and listen too. I read all books first before buying the audible and still recommend readers who are able to read the print version to that first where possible. I would love to see Jae Back to Oregon series done in audible.

Mixed Reaction

There are some aspects of this Lesrom that I liked, particularly those featuring Austen who is a well rounded fictional character which in this particular book makes her stand out. Now for the parts I didn't care for. The fear in which everyone regards Dee, the other lead character borders on parody; often on the wrong side of that border. The scene involving Austen's ex seems like something thrown in three days prior to editing. Then there are the other characters who get a great deal air time (page time) such as Dee's family, with the exception of her brother Tim, played about as real as sitcom extras. The same holds true for Austen's dad, brother, and her father's new wife. Austen's friend and her partner are better but not by enough to really work.
The story itself worked well as a basic romance and at times I was able to see the manner in which Austen was changing the way Dee interacted with the world. In the end I went with the positive parts of the narrative and awarded it 4 stars.

Narrator sucks!

There are some voices that work for romance and some that just don't . You guys need someone else choosing talent for your lesbian romance novels--STAT!. You have barely a handful of good narrators, some average and then some voices that DO NOT work for these books AT ALL. Shawn Bryan's voice does not work. Firstly too old sounding, and secondly she sounds like she's trying to sell something on a commercial. She doesn't differentiate well enough either. There is nothing more annoying than having the wrong narrator for a good book. It wrecks the book. Do the authors get to choose a narrator?
