"Will you ever let me go?"

"No, Nora," he replies, and I can feel his smile in the darkness. "Never."

On the eve of her 18th birthday, Nora Leston meets Julian Esguerra, and her life changes forever. Stolen away to a private island, she finds herself at the mercy of a powerful, dangerous man whose touch makes her burn...a man whose obsession with her knows no bounds.

Her enigmatic captor is as cruel as he is beautiful, yet it's his tenderness that devastates her most. Drawn into his violent world, Nora must find a way to adapt and survive - and find light within the darkness.

Kidnap, Rape, Assault, Abuse, Dangerous Obsession

About me: Male, very early 50's, like the romance, suspense, action, drama and sci-fi genres and have no problem with graphic sex in novels. I listen to10-20 books on average per month while exercising or during my off time.

This is probably my harshest review based on the subject matter and how it was normalized.

I did finish although I skipped past more than hours of continuous repetitive angst!

Let me start off by saying that there might be a tiny percentage of women who think that a person who kidnaps you, then repeatedly rapes and abuses you, then manipulates you into "falling in love" is what they want but that is frightening.

What drove me insane?
* Sex is used as the answer to happiness, sadness, anger, punishment and any other emotion.
* The term, rape, was only used once as it pertained to Julian. She was forcefully raped in several instances and shortly after, was happy and looking towards the future.
* Dangerously possessive and obsessive behavior seems to be glorified.
* After witnessing a brutal beating of a friend for no reason other than to control her, Nora continues to want to be with Julian.
* cruel and torturous murder, just because!

Why did I finish? I guess I was hoping that there would be something that could redeem the horrible behavior but nothing even close to this happened. Even at the end, anger and violent rape was the way to resolve a breakdown in communication and it was couched as their version of love! This appears to be a guidebook for guys who think violent and sexual assault is the proper way to force a woman to fall in love with them.

I may try to read another story by this author but I am reluctant as this series was wrong in so many ways!

Just No. Wish I hadn't read it.

SPOILER ALERT: Don't read if you don't want to know.
I read this series because it was supposedly the prequel to the Tormentor Mine series by the same author. I just could NOT get with the H/h. This is a "dark romance?" There did not seem to be any redeeming value in Julian who, admittedly had a rough start in life, but does that give you the right, just because you're rich, to abduct an 18 year old naive girl just because she reminds you of someone you knew as a child? Rape her the first day on your island and keep her in line by threatening to kill her high school crush? When she attempted to escape, call his henchmen in Chicago and have said crush beat up with Nora watching on screen? Then punish her with rough sex? Call her"my pet" throughout the book as if she didn't have a name? Nora. And the heroine, I kept waiting for her to grown a spine, but what he got here was a Stockholm syndrome where she "grew to love the pain and punishment?" The "twisted" refers to his liking of sexual pain from a teenager. I have NO problems with BDSM in the context of willing partners, but Nora was not willing. I have a problem where Julian refused to allow her to even think of leaving him and could only keep her with threats of violence to others. When he decided he wanted to marry her to "bind her to him" in Columbia and she didn't want to, he again called his henchmen with orders to kill her high school crush to keep her in line. This is OK? Just NO. I skipped chapters, trying to find when this character would soften towards her, or change somewhat in his feelings - and on yes - it came 15 minutes from the end. A 25 hour read of sick possession, punishment without feeling and entitlement without regard. Just No.

ONE WORD..... EPIC

A book lasting 26 hours is a daunting thought but when you're suddenly hurled into Nora and Julian's terrifying world you just want to walk with them through more and more and even more. What an emotional ride Anna Zaires took me on with jaw-dropping reactions at the sensational dramatic twists, gripping suspense, heart-pounding highs and earth shattering lows. Three books rolled into one and I'm so pleased and grateful that I didn't need to wait anxiously for the next book to be released as the cliffhangers slowly came into sight.

Nora didn't get what she wanted for her Birthday..... instead she gets kidnapped by a breathtakingly handsome stranger she very briefly met at a Bar one night but she could never ever have imagined what he had planned for her..... or how it would devastatingly or wonderfully affect and change her life, her thoughts, her sexual desires and her way of thinking. Because Julian was a Sadist and a Sociopath who totally lacked any conscience or morals over his actions.... he wanted so he took.... and what he wanted was Nora. But pretty soon she became his obsession as well as his possession, his Achilles Heel, his distraction and eventually his saviour, his salvation and his whole world. However, first he had to break her, train her, possess her, mould her and show her that she was irrevocably forever his, his pet, to do with as he pleased.... and he wanted to do it often!! He was a beautiful monster..... handsome, self assured, confident, charismatic, frightening, charming and a very sexually skilled and demanding lover but underneath lay a controlling monster.

You'd think that you'd hate him but somehow, like Nora experienced, he gets under your skin and, in his way, he's kind, considerate, loyal and very thoughtful over everything to do with looking after Nora providing everything she could possibly want.... except her freedom. His personality traits are explained and then understood when shared later in the story. This is a very dark, gritty and raw romance which includes rape, BDSM, lots of scorching hot passion-filled sex scenes and a Sub/Dom type relationship. But it's so so much more too - because it slowly draws you into Julian's terrifying and dangerous world of violence, torture and many many deaths and all the while it's centred around the possessive, dynamic, dysfunctional and often disdainful relationship of two people that can't live, can't function and can't breathe without the other.

Was is Stockholm Syndrome, was it addiction or was it Nora's mind and body's way to cope and survive what was happening to it? Whatever the answer..... it turned into a deep all consuming love that had both Nora and Julian dramatically risking their lives to save each other and that's where the beauty of this story shone brightly. Because despite the abuse, pain, heartache, loss, grief, despair, fear and turmoil they fought together side by side for one another and came out of a deadly and emotional roller coaster the united Victors.

Worth a credit? I'll be honest, at the start there were parts that were harrowing to listen to, but it quickly drew me in like quicksand with all the questions yet to be answered, all the suspense and twists yet to be revealed, all the heartache yet to be felt and all the drama yet to unfold. This was a mind-blowingly awesome listen and, as my heart rate picked up, my pulse pounded, my senses were strung out and my sleep pattern was shattered.... I knew that I'd never ever ever heard a book quite like this before as I relished every second and that it's going to haunt me in the days to come as I ponder, savor and re-live this intense journey. Book 1 was Nora's POV, books 2 and 3 were thankfully dual POV's, great narration, a host of secondary characters and a strong Hero and Heroine who are both loveable but for very different reasons and YES a 10 star creditworthy epic listen..... but you have been warned!!

not for me

I did not like the rape aspect of this book at all. An older man raping a newly 18 year old. Could not listen to this.

If you're going to write a rape fantasy series...

Would you listen to another book narrated by Shirl Rae and Roberto Scarlato ?

I didn't care for the female narrator -- came off a bit too clinical somehow.

Any additional comments?

If you're going to write a rape fantasy series...I feel you should be more upfront about what it is. Since it's fiction, in a way, it's consensual, it all came from one woman's mind and I purchased it knowing that there were nonconsensual aspects present. However, it would have served the author, characters and listeners better if more attention was paid to the disturbing nature of kidnapping a barely legal woman to keep for the REST OF HER LIFE. It takes about a day for this girl to get used to the idea of being a perma-captive, and she doesn't really ever seem to care all that much about never, ever seeing her parents again after she realizes how hot this dude is. I just feel that if you're going to, again let's be real, romanticize an abusive relationship, make sure there is actual tension, real resentment, real fight, and real confusion about your situation. It flatlined almost immediately because the characters didn't go anywhere in their thinking -- they assumed their roles of captive and kidnapper from the start and comfortably stewed there through the entire series. The author would constantly take abusive situations and give them a new name -- a friendlier, sillier term that would undermine the gravity and depravity of the situation. I can't remember a specific example now, I just remember laughing out loud. It's basically a story of a seemingly normal girl who gets kidnapped and likes it because fuck autonomy and gets a pretty sweet tan in the process, you know what I mean? This author takes a fucked up, suspenseful premise and declaws it herself.

Dark, depressing and infuriating

Unfortunately I could not finish this book especially when it got to the second book what a messed up story and messed up individuals. I don't mind dark novels but this is a hopelessly dark novel with abuse unending and no light at the end of the end of the tunnel. The characters do not grow into better people but more sick and perverse. I'm quite disappointed in the author because listening this made me feel upset the entire time after a while and want to avoid the book like the plague and regret I purchased it. It makes you hate both characters and feel sorry for the girls parents. I would not recommend this to anyone especially if you aren't into psychological, emotional and physical rape to the point where the victim excepts and glories in it. The author fails to try and romanticize a horrible horrible unacceptable abusive relationship. I wouldn't even call this sadism it's beyond that. The only thing I will say is that the book is quite literally it's title, twisted. Theirs no hope for any decent character development just failed attempt to make the abusive relationship seem "normal" for these characters lol and makes you think why would anyone write such horrible things, worst book and reading experience I've ever had. The narrators did a good job but that's all would give the book 0 stars if that was a thing. Please do not waste your time most will wish they never wasted a credit or bought the book. Wish I could return it.

Not for me!

SPOILERS! I only got about 20 min in. At first it was so bad(cheesy) that it was still entertaining. I kept listening, thinking, once the story moves on it will get a little more serious. It got serious alright. Within the small amount of time I listened to this book the main character is raped. I understand that this is a story based upon the story of Hades capturing Persephone, but I just was not ok with what I was listening to. And I would have liked a warning. Also, the voice acting is alright, but cheesy.

Against her will

Let's be honest, this book is about getting taken against one's will - literally rape. The main character, a young woman who just turned 18, ends up consenting-if you could call it that (I could not), but I still could not get over the lack of respect and decency from the villain/kidnapper/rapist/love interest.
To be fair, I did not finish the book and maybe it have a happy ending, but I could not stomach the middle to get there.

I Hate, Like, Hate, Like Julian

Where does Twist Me: The Complete Trilogy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a dark romance. I use the romance lightly. Julian is borderline sociopath and a true sadist. Thru the first book and half of the second book I just hate him. Then he starts to show signs of care and compassion then I remind myself what he has done without remorse.

This trilogy starts out a little slow for me but picks up quick and stays fast paced, action packed and I cringed, closed my eyes, and said no, no, no, more times than I can remember.

The second and third book has dual narration. Narration is very good and keeps you interested in the edge of your seat action and the cringing sadism of Julian.

Three books (26 hours of entertainment) for the price of 1 Credit. Hell yah it's worth the credit.

I have the spin-off Capture Me in my library to listen to next. This book is about Lucas and Yulie. In the third book Yulie betrays Julian and Lucas so Lucas has her captured and held prisoner in his personal quarter's on the compound.

This is a series I will listen to time and time again.
