Honest and Inspiring

I very thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read many books on the topic of navigating the storms of life, and I found this book to be a refreshing, honest and inspiring take in how to deal with life’s challenges and find everyday happiness and joy. She read it with passion and conviction, as authors tend to do. I am a big fan of Her band and art as well, but even if her music isn’t your thing, this book is a must listen. Valuable, insightful, helpful, inspirational and downright fun.

Good IF you like "Sex & the City" & Autobiography

Probably a bit more for the female audience since it reads more like an episode of "Sex and the City" in my opinion. I was able to get a few hours in but It wasn't for me. Just wasn't what I was expecting. Good narrator and person but seemed more of an autobiography than a self help book. It did slowly start getting to tips and practices for turning "pain into art" but it is mixed SO much with autobiography and personal opinions. I was waiting for some sound advice or practical application but almost halfway through didn't hear much. I did not finish it so can't say that it doesn't offer value.

An absolutely beautiful and inspiring read by an inspiring musician/singer

A few days ago I decided to buy my own physical copy of Turn Your Pain Into Art (I wanted the real thing that I could read.) and after I had made the purchase I noticed that the Audio version was free on Audible with a thirty day free trial (or something like that.) so I decided too give it a listen and I was NOT disappointed. Ariel has written such a personal book and I absolutely love how she takes her own experiences and lessons she has learned and incorporates them into tips and advice that ANYONE can use to better their own lives. I have never, since I could read non-picture books, read a book more powerful or relatable than Turn Your Pain Into Art. Ariel explains what it’s like to live with Depression, Self-Hatred and Self-Harm to a T. I’ll be honest, I cried A LOT listening to the Audio version alone and I am sure I will cry even more when I get to read the book in real life. I cried because Ariel’s descriptions of her struggles and what she felt were so REAL and so close to the stuff I have dealt with in MY life. I felt a kind of relief when she started to talk about her experiences with Religion as they came very close to what I have dealt with when it came to Religious people. The Judgement, Being told I was nothing without God and that I had to obey EVERYTHING my elders told me or I’d burn in hell. Ariel, Thank you for doing what you do. Thank you for making your music and most of all thank you for writing a book so amazing that I will never forget. Thank you for giving me a guide so I can turn MY pain into Art. You’re truly an amazing woman and a great inspiration.

Christian based - hidden to lure purchase

I bought this book a couple of hours ago, thinking it was about 'art' (silly me) and getting
artists to give more energy/ enthusiasm into making art. I was very wrong. This author and book is an autobiography
on a Christian raised by fundamentalist parents, who ended up 'successful' with a rock band...Christian,
of course. I resent being lured into buying a book with a subject that, not only have I no interest in, but
on a topic that I avoid. Possibly as bad, the focus of this author seems to be teens....high school goths, depressive,
miserable, and specifically, self harming. Had that been stated in the description, I would have stopped reading
the description immediately. This was bait and switch. Too bad Amazon and the publisher of this book
felt it was necessary to hide the content, unless that was the only way to sell a few more copies.

Inspirational

I loved this, everything about it. the first half felt like my youth just with all of the details being different. The narration reeled me in right away and kept pulling me further in. The only axe I have to grind with this is where was this in 2004 huh? HUH?!
I would recommend this to all, those who currently struggle, and those who have overcome their inner stuggles.

Not what I had expected

I bought this book bcus my 16yo daughter is a fan of Icon for Hire and I wanted to read it first. I am familiar with their music and had attended a show. To be honest, when my daughter first started listening, it was SCARY as I thought it may deepen her depression.
I found that this book is very helpful, is well constructed and has much to offer the younger generations. Ariel depicts her oppressing childhood in a work based religion, but it is not a religious book.
Although I do not agree with everything said, I do believe she is reaching an audience that needs reaching and this book has tons of mature advice on how to improve one's self and live their best life.
Yay for this book, bcus if I hear one more band tell young people they are perfect the way they are (while they have been acting like little aholes all night) I might never attend another concert!

I'm pretty sure Ariel is an alien.

I'm going to talk about her with my alien friends next time they pick me up. I really enjoyed her book and she has a lot of stories about growing up and outcast in Decatur Illinois which does not sound fun. I liked that she was able to make the most of her life by being positive in focusing on her good qualities. I see a lot of very alien-like features in her like her ultra intelligence. You might be fooled by this but I'm not.
