    Description

The Wheel of Time is a PBS Great American Read Selection!

    Now in development for TV!

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers and listeners around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

In Towers of Midnight, the Last Battle has started. The seals on the Dark One's prison are crumbling. The Pattern itself is unraveling, and the armies of the Shadow have begun to boil out of the Blight. The sun has begun to set upon the Third Age.

Perrin Aybara is now hunted by specters from his past: Whitecloaks, a slayer of wolves, and the responsibilities of leadership. All the while, an unseen foe is slowly pulling a noose tight around his neck. To prevail, he must seek answers in Tel'aran'rhiod and find a way - at long last - to master the wolf within him or lose himself to it forever.

Meanwhile, Matrim Cauthon prepares for the most difficult challenge of his life. The creatures beyond the stone gateways - the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn - have confused him, taunted him, and left him hanged, his memory stuffed with bits and pieces of other men's lives. He had hoped that his last confrontation with them would be the end of it, but the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills. The time is coming when he will again have to dance with the Snakes and the Foxes, playing a game that cannot be won. The Tower of Ghenjei awaits, and its secrets will reveal the fate of a friend long lost.

Dovie'andi se tovya sagain. It's time to toss the dice.

TV series update: "Sony will produce along with Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures. Rafe Judkins is attached to write and executive produce. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

Brandon Sanderson really understands this wonderful world that Robert Jordan has created. I am saddened that we will only get one more book and then nothing but imagination. I have listened to all of the books in this series and I remain captivated by the charactors and the Narration. Kate Redding is really the best there is and there would be no Matt without Micheal Kramer. Mr. Sanderson has another loyal follower.

Doesn't wrap as nicely as Gathering Storm

This was a solid and action packed listen. As usual, Michael and Kate do an excellent job with the read. If Rand and Egwene are the primary characters in this series, they have only brief appearances in Towers of Midnight. Perrin and Mat's stories finally get moving and are almost resolved. I would say that anything unpredictable occurs in those story lines, but they are satisfying nonetheless. The flow and story is so tight I actually felt this book ended too abruptly. However, I look forward to the conclusion coming in the next book.

Please stop using the woman narrator

Why is she making all those exaggerated, strange noises, and why is she talking like that for Min? Oh, light, she is a bad narrator. Please for your own sake lady, do not try to make it oo much, keep a balance in visualizing voices, it is way too much, what a pity, such an amazing book, and that voices, what can I say, phaa

    Its a necessary step...

I'm a long time WOT fan but for me, like many, the series really bogged down as Jordan overwrote every book since the 5th one. RJ pursued so many story lines it made it almost impossible to follow one character or story arc effectively as a reader, and the mess he left for Brandon Sanderson to clean up is truly atrocious. How RJ expected to finish all of this off in 1 last mammoth book is beyond me. Clearly BS has a made an effort to retain the Jordan pattern of giving every single minor character anyone runs across a back story. Unfortunately that tendency was one of the things I liked least about how RJ wrote his books. Like many here I'm terribly tired of P Aybarra's constant introspection, just get over yourself already. Further I believe that Kramer's voice for him, along with the dialog, makes him seem like a petulant child and I've found myself skipping parts of his section that clearly repeat what has been said too many times before. I generally like Mat's character and it feels to me like BS has brought some new life to that story line, and some of the plot lines finally resolve themselves to clean that up. Rand's story arc and character are HUGE upgrades over RJ's last efforts and I finally find, again, that the story seems to be advancing along well with his character. Egwene's character is still far too much for me to stomach and she seems to be becoming a pivotal female character who is influencing the other female characters in the story line, such as Elayne and Nyneave who are stronger characters and much more likable in my opinion. I find myself wishing Egwene is killed off in a tragic moment to show that even the main characters can be touched by the Dark... but if that happened there would be WAY to much work to be done on the White Tower story line so I guess she has to be kept around. Avienda, one of my favorite early characters is virtually non-existant, as are most of the Aiel characters. This is clearly a necessary step, just finish already.

    Excellent narrative...

Sanderson has done an excellent job in continuing Jordan's rich storytelling in this second-to-last book in the Wheel of Time series. Thoroughly enjoyable!

    Wow

Prologue gave us a glimpse of what was to come. The book , so far, lives up to the promise of the prologue. I am up to chapter 8 now and and really excited about what has happened thus far. Like pieces of a puzzle gradually coming together so that one can see more and more of the whole tapestry that this series truly is. A magnificent tapestry with plently of places to view in detail.

    Keeps getting better!

As with the gathering storm, this book benefits from the blending of styles between Jordan and Sanderson. The action and plot keep your attention and make it difficult to stop. Sanderson does the reader / listener the favor of removing the one and only true annoyance of Robert Jordan's writing style; that being the never-ending detailed descriptions of every conceivable object, especially every characters current clothing. Enough detail remains to not fully depart from precedent; however, emphasis is given to plot and actions. The only problem I have with this book is the realization that it will likely be at least another year before I can purchase the final book.

    beware buying this book

The story is coming together amazingly, the pace is way faster than we have been used to, but then we all know that the next book is the last, so the pace has to pick up in order for the story to be complete in only one more book.

I got more used to the voices of the narrators as this is my second audio book for WOT, having listened to the Gathering Storm. I still find the voices a little stilted for some characters, but I kind of got past that too.

    HOWEVER LISTENER BEWARE
This is supposed to be an unabridged version and yet they DO NOT READ THE GLOSSARY!
    This is a CRIME.

Anyone who has been following this series for years has been waiting with great impatience and anticipation to find out who killed Asmodean - it is one of the world's best kept secrets and has been debated for years and years online as we waited for the answer.
Again anyone following this series is by now well aware that in this book the answer is revealed ... BUT ONLY IN THE GLOSSARY.

SO I was totally outraged that the glossary was not read out at the end of the book as it was a VITAL part of the book (the glossary in WOT has always been vital for the gems of information it contains and the glossary changes in every book).

SO BEWARE - if you are a true fan and wanting to READ the answer to the most intriguing question in your mind you will be left high and dry.

I had to finally succumb and phone my daughter and BEG for her to read the glossary entry to me. It was not the great height of light being shed that it would have been to have the glossary read out to me.

SHAME ON THE PRODUCERS OF THIS AUDIO BOOK FOR CALLING THIS UNABRIDGED.

PS no I won't say here who killed him, you will have to find it out by buying the hard copy :)

Maybe I'm just growing tired of the series...

...but I'm going to stop this book for awhile and come back to it. I enjoyed the The Gathering Storm quite a bit, so I don't think it's Brandon Sanderson's writing, but Perrin Aybara is becoming sooooo tedious for me. There's absolutely nothing new happening in his story arc and I groan every time we get back to it - which seems way too often in this book. Crawling through the wolf dream with Hopper over and over again is mind numbing!

    Not a disappointment!

I really enjoyed the latest installment of the WoT. Sanderson has picked up the flag and continued this amazing story. I will tell you one thing this story keeps you guessing. You find yourself going through a myriad of emotions as this book unfolds and by the end I have to admit you do feel a bit like Sam the Hobbit at the Gates of Moridor trying to get in. There is a portion missing out of the recording which didn't make me too happy, but other than that I really loved it.

    wirklich sehr gut

A worthy episode, maybe the best. I’m looking forward to the final episode. Brandon Sanderson did a great job. All is ready for the last battle. Many storylines come together in this book.

It could never have been 38 hours!

Great! I did never think that this story will come to an end. Mr. Sanderson, if you read this, than please accept my deep thanks for the work on these books. I can feel that there is now the spirit of two dedicated and passionate writers in it. The choice of words and the pattern of the sentences are artistic. I am very happy, that I continued to listen to these audio books. They truly touched me. Also the reading from Michael Kramer and Kate Reading is (as always) wonderful. I hope that I will not have to wait too long for the final book. But on the other hand... it might – no it will be worth the waiting.

    Verschlungene Wege

    The "Middle Book" Problem

I finished listening to this really good audio book.
After "The Gathering Storm", Brandon Sanderson was anew able to give us a really good book from "The Wheel of Time". Well with the high expectations I had from listening to the former and Brandons other Books I was satisfied, but not overwhelmed.

It is not his best book, but its a really good one. The problem here might have been, that Brandon Sanderson did a lot of great ones and that it's a "Middle Book". He has to prepare everything for the big ending in the next book but still has to tie some string, dangeling from the previous one. It's simply not possible to make the middle book as good, as the first or last of a trilogy, just because you explored the big mystery and you can't have the climax yet.

Dont forget the narrators. Again Michael Kramer and Kate Readding did an astounding job with this.

Maybe I do the book some wrong, by giving "only" 4 stars, maybe not, you have to decide for yourself. If you like audio books and want to know the end of "The Wheel of Time" it's a must. And as I said... it's a really good book.
