Description
In this exhilarating novel by the best-selling author of The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry two friends—often in love, but never lovers—come together as creative partners in the world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality.
On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom.
They borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo: a game where players can escape the confines of a body and the betrayals of a heart, and where death means nothing more than a chance to restart and play again. This is the story of the perfect worlds Sam and Sadie build, the imperfect world they live in, and of everything that comes after success: Money. Fame. Duplicity. Tragedy.
Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, games as artform, technology and the human experience, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before.

Commentaires
"Gabrielle Zevin has written an exquisite love letter to life with all its rose gardens and minefields. With wisdom and vulnerability, she explores the very nature of human connection. This novel, and its unforgettable characters, know no boundaries. To read this book is to laugh, to mourn, to learn, and to grow." (Tayari Jones, author of An American Marriage)
"Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is the sort of book that comes around once in a decade - a magnificent feat of storytelling. It is a book about the intersection between love and friendship, work and vocation, and the impossible and relentless pull of our own west-bound destinies. Gabrielle Zevin is one of our greatest living novelists, and Tomorrow just may be her magnum opus. Remarkable." (Rebecca Serle, author of In Five Years)

This book sucked the life out of me
Maybe this just wasn’t for me, but I felt beaten by this story. There were times I thought I couldn’t finish it, but it is good enough to make you want to know how it all ends. It’s probably technically good, but I didn’t like it. I was relieved when it was over. Just not my taste.

Super Snoozer. Just a Bore
I listen to 6 books a month. Rarely do I review. But I must debunk these glowing revi6. This was the most boring and predictable thing I've listened to in many years. Just don't do it.

Beautiful
This is one of those rare books that only come around once in a blue moon. It is so good and so deep As a masterclass in character development. Everyone has an arc. I am still digesting the layers of nuance and subtlety. Listening to this is like savoring the greatest peach ever grown.

Gave it a go, but no
I wanted this to be good, but found it difficult to get interested. A pity as the idea of exploring computer games as an artistic/creative media was good. But the characters failed to seem real or even plausible. And I wondered as to the point of it all. The fact that there is not much to say about this novel says it all,

Meh
Sadie sucks. The reading performance was very robotic. It only got good till the end.

Great book
Great book about the life of game designers. If you were born in the seventies, you will love it. Not too technical. More about life than actual programming. Very beautifully written.

it truly is beautiful
This book was recommended by John Green on TikTok and now I know why he did.
The author was so knowledgeable about so many things it really immersed you in that world. I felt like I was in an alternate universe where all of these things actually happened and I could feel everything the characters went through. I found myself always wondering how they're doing now....
I've never read another book by this author but I definitely will look through all of his other books.

A captivating Read
This is a totally captivating story. Really delves into what it means to be a friend and have a friend - with all the rough spots showing. Without spoiling the story I will say there is one of the most moving surprise scenes I’ve ever read. I loved this book so much I bought the hardcover to keep so I could reread certain passages tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.

Highly recommended
Terrific book, the best I’ve read in sometime. The authors grasp of character is exquisite. Sam, Sadie and Marx are fully realized characters.I am not a gamer but I enjoyed reading about that world. Highly recommended.

Exploring human relationships
Super engaging. I generally love books that hyperfocuses on human relationships and this book does just that: a beautiful case study of extremely complex and layered relationships throug the years of childhood, young adulthood up until middle age.

Incredibly thoughtful
The book is unbelievably rich in themes and presents deep and nuanced characters. I am amazed by three things especially:
1. The main characters are complex, thoroughly detailed and seem so deeply human that I can barely think of other novels with character building on that level. The intimacy they build and lose is colourful and varied. And feels heartshatteringly organic.
2. Zevin's use of language was a joy to listen to. She managed to capture complex emotions very efficiently, from comical to existential dread and despair. Her writing is on point - it doesn't waste time or words, but the impact of each sentence feels like it is exactly what it needed to be. Her choice of words or narrative devices is dazzlingly imaginative and creative.
3. The structure of the book is kept engaging and rewarding. Zevin's ability to perfectly time tangents or callbacks is such a beautiful tool of giving either context to a character's emotions or motivations, or a very engaging way of providing exposition. Especially the parts "The NPC" and "Pioneers" were based on incredible narrative choices and lended themselves to multi-layered themes and character building, enabling the rich characters and colourful language to shine fully, and making those sections the highest points of the book.
Overall, I can only think of a few novels that had a deeper impact on me. I am planning on rereading it, which I usually never do. I deem it a masterpiece, albeit not a perfect one.
(note: it helps if you're into videogames, but it's not a requirement)

Very moving
The story and the characters really moved me and I really liked the changes of perspectives from character to character. I didnt really like the sudden voice change in the middle of listening but apart from that I enjoyed myself alot.

Wonderful
I have nothing to do with gaming and the industry and I loved the book very much. Really got pulled into the story, which I think is wonderfully crafted.
Thought it could have ended earlier, but it’s still 5 stars

Cringey characters, ok story
The characters are all horrible people in a weirdly anachronistic version of what is supposed to be “the game dev world”.
Also disappointing that all game inspirations get credited except for Train by Brenda Romero (which was a direct reference for the book’s game “Solution”).
Good enough to listen to while doing the dishes, I guess.

Loved it!
I surprisingly loved the voice, I thought it sounded a bit drony to begin with.
The story is beautiful and moving, I wouldn’t have picked it up without a recommendation but I’m so glad I did!
