À propos de ce contenu audio

Elizabeth George's masterly new novel brings Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley back onto centre stage in an intricate crime drama.

While DI Thomas Lynley is still on compassionate leave after the murder of his wife, Isabelle Ardery is brought into the Met as his temporary replacement. The discovery of a body in a Stoke Newington cemetery offers Isabelle the chance to make her mark with a high profile murder investigation. Persuading Lynley back to work seems the best way to guarantee a result: Lynley's team is fiercely loyal to him and Isabelle needs them - and especially Barbara Havers - on side. The Met is twitchy: a series of PR disasters has undermined its confidence. Isabelle knows that she'll be operating under the unforgiving scrutiny of the media, so is quick - perhaps too quick - to pin the murder on a convenient suspect. The murder trail leads Lynley and Havers to the New Forest, and the eventual resolution of the case. Its roots are in a long-ago act of violence that has poisoned subsequent generations and its outcome is both tragic and shocking.

    PRAISE FOR ELIZABETH GEORGE
    She's brilliant
    The connoisseur's crime writer
    A very fine writer
A master of the English mystery
Elizabeth George reigns supreme as queen of the mystery genre. The Lynley books constitute the smartest, most gratifyingly complex and impassioned mystery series now being published
    George is a master
A fascinating list of subjects . . . wrenching stories . . . George conveys them all with exceptional grace
It's tough to resist George's storytelling, once hooked

I liked this audiobook much better than "Careless in red" as well as for the plot as for the narrator. Inspector Lynley is back, still overcoming the loss of his wife but less distressingly depressed as in the last book, which was largely overshadowed by the story of his personal tragedy. Humor is back too, with Barbara Havers reappearance and her opposition to Isabelle Ardery, her new SI. A newcomer to the London team, which I heartily disliked, by the way. The backgroundstory on which the plot is constructed gives one the creeps, it is unfortunately perfectly credible. Overall a very entertaining book, I will move on now to "Believing the lie".

    Lynley's return
