In the story, two men from the children of Israel were striving for goodness. One devoted himself to worship, while the other struggled with sins. Each time the worshipper saw his companion sinning, he urged him to stop, until one day, in frustration, he declared that Allah would never forgive his companion or allow him into Jannah. When they both passed away and stood before Allah, Allah questioned the worshipper's knowledge and power to make such a claim. He then granted Paradise to the man who had sinned, by His mercy, and condemned the one who spoke harshly to Jahannam. Abu Hurayrah concluded, “By Allah, because of one word, this man lost both this world and the next.” This story is authentic, told to us by the most noble of the messengers, Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and was collected by Imam Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) and classed as authentic by Imam Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him).
