Description
This was meant to be the perfect trip. The northern lights. A press launch on a luxury cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blackwood to recover from a traumatic break-in that has left her on the verge of collapse and to work out what she wants from her relationship.
Except things don't go as planned. Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next-door cabin. But the records show that no one ever checked in to that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.
Exhausted, emotional and increasingly desperate, Lo has to face the fact that her sleep problems might be driving her mad, or she is trapped on a boat with a murderer - and she is the sole witness....

well worth the read
A bit of a slow start but then one you cannot turn off until you get to the end. Great performance and well written. The main character is like a real Agatha Christie who ends up working it out by herself... you suspect everyone and no one. I highly recommend it.

Addicting, nice reading interpretation.
I am French and listened to this book in English, read by Imogen Church. I enjoyed the clarity and pace of the diction which allowed me to follow the story perfectly. I didn't get bored, action and suspense in every chapter, although the script gave me a form of "déjà vu", may be in another book or another movie, whose title I don't remember. I regret that the author produces so much "length" in the dialogues: the characters are repeating themselves endless and it seems sometimes we would never get out of the repetitive meaning, over and over again the same in some chapters ... phew. In my opinion, not any of the characters, even the heroine, is enough psychologically developed, the lengths do not help giving more vivid portraits. However, the hermetic effects into the ship are well rendered and really, almost bodily oppressive. I count this book among those who win the first prize at using the words "shit" and "fuck" the most frequently. Is all that necessary? What about all that alcohol as well? Disgusting. But at least, I still recommend this audio book, especially if English is your second language (and if your are not addicted to alcohol), because it is engaging and easy to follow, so best for improving your skills. Anyway it is quite a great writing and a very good reading performance.

Good old fashioned page turner
From the moment I started listening to this and all the way through to the end… The story and the narrator held me. I couldn't put it down. Bravo!

Despite the good ratings-not for me
Although this book has so many high ratings I found it extremely dull and boring. The first couple of chapters were interesting but after that it was just about a girl on a ship to write an article but who doesn't actually do anything. It was just chapter upon chapter of her meeting people, a missing woman and more words. It just had no substance.

Much too long
Not enough action or sufficiently interesting characters to justify the length. Would have been better as a short story.

Great holiday book
The narration was excellent! Imogen Church's different accents, especially her scandinavian accent was superb. I have read a few Ruth Ware books and this one was fantastic. There were a few instances where I got annoyed with the weak and impassive behaviour of the main character but overall this was a good book. The book had me guessing to the end. I loved the ending of the book.

Impossible to stop listening. Seriously.
I never normally write reviews, but this book was so enjoyable I thought that it deserved the time. The narration was impeccable, oddly soothing whilst being extremely suspenseful. My favourite part about the experience was the feeling of constantly being at the edge of a cliff hung on a hook. There wasn’t a singular lead up that climaxed and then dropped to mundane chapters waffling to an end like many thrillers. This book has multiple peaks that keep you thoroughly entertained.

Seriousness Gone
While reading the book written by Ruth Ware was exciting and thrilling. I searched for the Audio Book for my girlfriend to listen to this incredible book that I read. The narrator takes long pauses which make it slow and her “male” voices are just completely awful. Every male character sounds the same and sounds like a female mocking a male. Just completely offsetting that takes the seriousness of the storyline.

Gripping...
I love a novel that holds your interest so tight that you can't turn it off. Even better when you don't guess what is coming around the corner. Perhaps their will be a sequel??

Absolutely not recommended
this was perhaps the worst audio book I have listened to. the story was shallow, predictable, and lacking any real creativity. things are explained to the reader as if we were too dense to figure out even the most obvious of things. the characters engage in behavior that is downright dummy and questionable - and they sometimes do or say things simply as a way for the author to, once again, explain things to us that are already apparent.
The woman reading this is annoying: her fake voices, over-dramatisation, accents that are way off the mark... at some point you find yourself wishing and hoping that she would just tone it down. There is not a single person in real life who speaks the way she portrays it here.
Rubbish.

Don't waste your time on this one
One of the very few books I did not manage to finish. The protagonist was a whiny, self-absorbed, naive little moron, who got worked up about nearly everything, The narrator drove me insane. Her fake accents, her whingy voice gave me the creeps. The story - absolutely unbelievable. One of the worst audio books I ever tried to listen to. And believe me,I really tried.

Weak story, excellent speaker
Lengthy and not at all times logical story, but the excellent speaker I. Church compensates for some of these shortcomings.

The narrator ruined this one...
Sheesh. I really wanted to listen to this audiobook but the narrator drove me mad. An hour in and I had to quit. The character seems like a whiney cookie-cutter middle aged lush. Why the narrator wasn’t asked to make her performance sound like a human being, I’ll never know.

Nicht fanz so gut wie das erste buch, aber dennoch spannend und empfehlenswert. Daher gibt's von mir ein klares ja.
