Dashiell Hammett
"The Whosis Kid" by Dashiell Hammett is a gritty detective story featuring the Continental Op, a hard-boiled private investigator navigating a world of crime, deceit, and shifting loyalties.
The story follows the Op as he tracks down a notorious criminal known as the Whosis Kid, a slippery figure whose identity and motives remain elusive. Set against Hammett's trademark backdrop of corruption and moral ambiguity, the tale unfolds with sharp dialogue, terse prose, and a relentless pace. As the Op digs deeper, he uncovers layers of betrayal and violence that blur the line between justice and survival.
Hammett's mastery of realism and his unsentimental portrayal of the criminal underworld make "The Whosis Kid" a quintessential example of early noir fiction. The story captures the essence of Hammett's style-tough, cynical, and uncompromisingly authentic.
It is presented here in its original and unabridged format and has been narrated by David Blixt, Kevin Theis and Sara Nichols, who have together narrated the entire collection of Hammett's short fiction, also available on this platform.
