    Description

Book Two of The Prince of Nothing series finds the Holy War continuing its inexorable march southward. But the suspicion begins to dawn that the real threat comes not from the infidel but from within....

Steering souls through the subtleties of word and expression, Kellhus strives to extend his dominion over the Men of the Tusk. The sorcerer Achamian and his lover, Esmenet, submit entirely, only to have their faith - and their love - tested in unimaginable ways. Meanwhile, the warrior Cnaiur falls ever deeper into madness. Convinced that Kellhus will betray their pact to murder his father, Cnaiur turns to the agents of the Second Apocalypse and strikes an infernal bargain.

The Holy War stands on a knife edge. If all is not to be lost, the great powers of the world will have to choose between their most desperate desires and the end of the world. Between hatred and hope. Between Anasurimbor Kellhus and the second apocalypse.

    Christians beware

First let me say I am a huge fan of fantasy novels. I have read/listened to all the major series and more besides. There is a general theme of disdain for religion in general running through most of these works. As these religions are primarily made up by the authors this generally doesn't bother me. However in this book, the protagonist is such an obvious parody of Christ I could not finish the book. He sermonizes, forgives sins, changes existing "scripture " and at one point is even "crucified" in a manner. All this while knowingly fooling these people into thinking he is a religious figure and pursuing his own agenda. Combine this with endless internal monologues by various characters and what you get is really an offensive waste of a credit. Quite disappointing because I actually liked the first book.

beautifully written, and performed to perfection

I loved this book, the prose is absolutely fantastic and the story is amazing. I also have to say that the narrator is just perfect and performed with such gusto that I was mesmerized. Amazing ! Can’t recommend it enough.

    Above average

good voicing, interesting take on fantasy, a little too heavy on sex and descrptive metaphors, a little light on female characters who don't exist to have sex. vivid world.

    Decline into boring

The previous book isn’t what I would consider a good start. This book is a bridge from bad to terrible. No protagonists, only horrible terrible or weak (women) characters. Who cares after you have terrible characters after that. If you are thinking about continuing this terrible trilogy I would recommend against it as it is a waste of time.

    Something has happened

…In me or on the page. The war grinds on. Relentless sieges, battles and sufferings proceed with some degree of thickly described repetition. Geographic settings change, little of the mystery of this world is revealed. Bakker still hides his hand, but in guiding one along the path the listener is wooed. The first volume is a beating. The second a caress.

One of the best series of epic fantasy

This series… beginning to end is in my opinion, one of the absolute best! It is well written, unique in concept, flows effortlessly and this book was read masterfully by David DeVries.

Grim dark at the boundary condition

Excellent writing. Compelling world building. But it is a most vile world in which to explore the depravity of man, and the limits of his villainy against the darkness of his origin. Be warned. Vicious and depraved and brilliant.

    Complete waste of time

I’ve listened to many, many fantasy books but dark fantasy is my favorite sub genre.
This book is pure convoluted drivel. The first book is the worst book I’ve ever read/listened to but I trudged through it because some say they loved it so I kept waiting for it to get better but It never came close. I listened to the second because some say it gets better but it doesn’t. He throws out what seems like hundreds of random names of characters, people, and places that are impossible to remember and just takes even more away from the book. I could go on and on about how much I detest this series but I’m not gonna waste one more second on this garbage.
