Description

What would happen if Martians landed on Earth - and none of our weapons could stop them? H.G. Wells's timeless masterpiece - which spawned many movie adaptations - imagines this frightening scenario. The horrifying bug-like extraterrestrials, which can wipe out entire crowds with a single heat-ray and poisonous gas, first appear in the English countryside... and then wreak havoc.

Narrated by an unnamed protagonist who flees home to seek out safe ground, this terrifying tale creates a shockingly realistic vision of what might happen if fearsome, technologically superior aliens attacked us.

Delicious, but why change the narrator's name?!

Having listened to the story as read by a more traditional narrator years ago, I found this version to be refreshingly different.
What I really don't understand, though, is why Oregan Publishing changes the narrator's names when it re-releases free LibriVox audiobook recordings via Audible for a low price.
After figuring out that "Erica Collins" is apparently a made up name and is used for multiple different people, I wanted to know who really performed this narration so I looked it up and found she is actually Cori Samuel (who has her own website at piratelibrary dot com). I could listen to her read the phone book...

Difficult to finish

I can see why this material is used for source material.
The content and narrator seemed to lack any passion or character, and by that I mean it was very monotone.

Hardest part to get through is the narrator reading Ooo-La, over and over again. I actually needed to stop for an hour after this.

I'll doubt this will get any repeat listening on my device.

Monotonous

I want to begin by saying that I loved the story. I didn’t love the performance as much. Firstly, it is written from the first person perspective of a man, so I found it a bit strange to have a woman reading it. I could get used to that though. Worse was that she read it in the same monotonous voice the whole time and hardly changed her voice at all for different characters. Even in the most exciting scenes I could have used this book to fall asleep to because of the monotone. I did finish it and am happy I did, but I am glad that I got it very cheap because it is not something one should want to waste a lot of money on.

How can she make THIS story into a lullaby

I’m just going to read it myself to prevent falling asleep in the car ☹️. She is sooo boring!

Excellent! truly enjoyed this title

another classic story by Wells, and expertly narrated by Ms/Mrs Collins. this story plays out nicely with vivid descriptions, and a clear sense of just what sort of fellow was retelling these (fictional) experiences. Thoroughly enjoyed this title and narration was very good.
