    Description

Strong-willed and proudly single, an engineer walks out when her parents set her up with a lawyer - but when work brings them together again, she just might give love a second chance.

Liya Thakkar is a successful biochemical engineer, takeout enthusiast, and happily single woman. The moment she realizes her parents' latest dinner party is a setup with the man they want her to marry, she's out the back door in a flash. Imagine her surprise when the same guy shows up at her office a week later - the new lawyer hired to rescue her struggling company. What's not surprising: He's not too thrilled to see her, either, after that humiliating fiasco.

Jay Shah looks good on paper...and off. Especially if you like that whole gorgeous, charming lawyer-in-a-good-suit thing. He's also infuriating. As their witty office banter turns into late-night chats, Liya starts to think he might be the one man who truly accepts her. But falling for each other means exposing their painful pasts. Will Liya keep running, or will she finally give love a real chance?

Find out in this laugh-out-loud romantic-comedy debut about first impressions, second chances, and finding the love of your life in the most unexpected way.

"Narrator Soneela Nankani provides a decadent listening experience as she captures a community with a vibrant culture and brings it to life with her richness of tone....Nankani shines in her portrayals of the Indian-American community, especially with her authentic accents. With subtle inflections and varying tones, Nankani will wow listeners." (AudioFile magazine)

"An enjoyable debut! The chemistry between Liya and Jay is off the charts. You'll be rooting for these two from their first meeting!" (Farah Heron)

"The enemies-to-lovers arc is classic, but the cultural specificity [Sajni] Patel brings makes this rom-com feel fun and fresh." (Publishers Weekly

"With witty banter and fascinating characters, Sajni Patel takes the classic enemies-to-lovers trope to a deliciously charming level. I loved everything about this book." (Farrah Rochon, USA Today best-selling author)

This Title Is Wrong For This Story

A misleading title to a very interesting story. Very now, topical. Sometimes the writer cuts corners in the interest of fitting the story into a neat box...why? A great audiobook well told.

    Great Read! Absolutely Adorable!

This is one of the books you read and have a smile on your face while reading it. The banter between Liya and Jay had me smiling throughout the whole book. Loved the Enemies-to-Lovers trope. Loved learning about the Indian culture and the way it mixed with today’s modern dating. It’s also a story with so much endearment, raw emotion, and empowerment.

I also felt so much emotion for the things Liya had been going through in her life. It doesn’t matter what culture, religion, or ethnicity you are no woman should have to go through those things.

This book was not only a love story but also how life is messy and tough for women. It’s a story for those who have a voice that should fight for what they believe in and what they know is the truth.

I highly recommended this book to everyone. This one is getting all the stars from me!

    What a disgusting book!

This book tries to wrap the sexual abuse of a minor around a meet cute.

Further, it ignores, sexual harassment issues in the workplace. Borderline stalking occurs and nothing happens to the protagonist.

But its biggest sin is that in a MeToo world, it continuously sides with the minister who abuses the female minor. Did this author even investigate the laws in Texas?

Total garbage. Stay away! The only good thing about this audio book was Soneela Nankani's narration it was world class.

I'm astonished at the people who gave this book good reviews. Did they even think about what they heard?

    Terrible book

A book about a narcissist struggling to communicate, who desperately needs therapy. Poorly written, awful story line. Very adolescent read

Refreshing Take on Enemies Turned Lovers

Such a new and refreshing twist on a cliche over done tale. The lense of this conservative and repressive community and its views of independent women made this diverse and witty novel a pleasure to consume.

    4.5 Stars

I actually picked this one up a while back prior to the release. I was really enjoying it, but was just not in a reading mood. I am so glad I picked this one back up. I cannot believe that this was the authors debut novel! I really loved learning more around the Indian culture. We get to see several sides within the culture from both families. This does start off with parents who are trying to arrange a marriage for their child, Liya. I loved how Liya did not want to just accept some of her cultural expectations and fought for what she wanted for her own life. If you love hate to love romances, I definitely recommend checking this one out. I really enjoyed how Jay and Liya meet and how they have several encounters before a romance begins to build. This also deals with some heavier topics such sexual abuse. Jay is also dealing with some past trauma. Liya really has her walls up but Jay really sticks by her side which I loved. The sexual abuse did not wrap up the way I would have liked, but the author still did a good job ensuring support for Liya was in place and ensuring she was not left feeling responsible for what happened to her. Overall, I really enjoyed this one!
