The Wizards Guild has been shattered by a coup and, in the uproar, Geralt was seriously injured. The Witcher is supposed to be a guardian of the innocent, a protector of those in need, a defender against powerful and dangerous monsters that prey on men in dark times. But now that dark times have fallen upon the world, Geralt is helpless until he has recovered from his injuries. While war rages across all of the lands, the future of magic is under threat and those sorcerers who survive are determined to protect it.

Geralt the Witcher has fought monsters and demons across the land, but even he may not be prepared for what is happening to his world. The kings and armies are manoeuvring for position, each fearing invasion from across the river, each fearing their neighbours more. Intrigue, dissent and rebellion are on all sides. The Elves and other non-humans are still suffering under decades of repression, and growing numbers join the commando units hidden deep in the forest, striking at will and then dissolving into the trees.

Description
Introducing Geralt the Witcher - revered and hated - who holds the line against the monsters plaguing humanity in the best-selling series that inspired the Witcher video games and a major Netflix show.
The world has fallen into war. Ciri, the child of prophecy, has vanished. Hunted by friends and foes alike, she has taken on the guise of a petty bandit and lives free for the first time in her life.
But the net around her is closing. Geralt, the Witcher, has assembled a group of allies determined to rescue her. Both sides of the war have sent brutal mercenaries to hunt her down. Her crimes have made her famous.
There is only one place left to run. The tower of the swallow is waiting....

A Great Read
The Tower of The Swallow is a really good read, with its focus being Ciri's side of the story. This book, despite not having given that much place to Geralt and his company (which is the best part in The Witcher saga, in my opinion), is nevertheless an enjoyable journey, especially the when reading through the parts concerning the conversations between Ciri and Vysogota!
...
Peter Kenny's narration...excellent, as it should be!

Another festival of failed plans
I love the games but after finishing the penultimate volume of the saga, I can safely say that the books are not my cup of tea. I find the detailing of sadistic torture unnecessary and voyeuristic, the narrative techniques contrived and boring. The plot is, yet again, about pathetic characters weaving ridiculously complex and risky plans, which all fail due to bad luck, forseeable events and to the bad guys scheming. Than the bad guys plans also fail. In the end, the plot is the mighty struggle of weak, incompetent fools.

So boring
The writer is now obviously getting paid by the word and has his eye on a shiny new Maserati. The good bits take up about a quarter of the book, the rest is conversations with complicated political or historical exposition that add very little to the story. The only really good thing about this book is the narrator.

Worse and worse
This series really gets worse and worse. The books gets filled with fluff that doesn't give character or world building, but rather author flowering.

The downfall of the view of a witcher.
A table, on one side sits Geralt, snearing in contempt. On the other sit someone who wants to hurt him. Geralt speak with veiled threats, beliving himself in a superior positon. The tables are turned and Geralt is wounded, outnumbered, disarmed or trapped. Then fate intervines and he escapes, weaker then he was. Now he enters a new room, a new table ans another person wanting him harm....
Thats it. I had my hopes of Geralt rising to greatness. I had hoped of seeing the skills of a witcher in him as he travels in his search. Yet I now see how this was ment to lower him down to a simple man. Less capable then a pregnant woman. The entire writen stpry about Geralt of Rivia reminds me, thus far, of the real life of a war hero. You hear about the stories abd think the man is a great man. A man who is capable and wise. Yet here we see the truth. Riddled with doubt, remorse and lashing out in vain anger only to fail at everything and remain unable to act. Seeking lonesome punishment yet being denyed even that. It makes him pathetic. Even when they travel through monster riddled territory where his skills could have been shown we get nothing. For the only monster this witcher fights are men. And those he fights badly. Damnit he never asked for her, in the villages or towns or the people he met. Not once did he ask if someone seen her.
And Ciri... oh Ciri. Almost raped by a man and then raped by a woman she then deludes herself to fall in love with said woman. Instead of returning home to Cintra or Caer Moren she decide to murder and pillage. She is so unable to make decisions for herself it makes me mad everytime I read about her. Well if anything at least she is able to swing her fking sword without falling on it. Not like her older counterpart.
As for Yennefer. Fuck that useless bitch. Boy did she act like she had power before yet now she is nothing. Unable to cast a single spell. Unable to act.
Overall the entire book just made me fucking pissed! Fuck Ciri for waiting for rescue when she could leave at any time for home. Fuck Geralt for his vain attempt at finding an enemy. Fuck Yennefer for doing fuck all. Fuck everyone for never lashing out at the frustrating fucking mess. Every single one of em could have left a road of blood behind em. Yet instead we got walking and talking for hours. Hinting and using vailed threats for hours. When a frustrated sword could have cut shit short and gotten to the point damn fucking fast. Buncha fking politicians.
All this said its masterfully written and read. I know of no author that is this good at writing speach, something I personally struggle with. Wonderful but frustrating af.

some stuff was weird
In the later part of the book, the author started somewhat repeating a phrase, the first 3 times it was ok, but when it was more than that it annoyed me, and completely pulled me out of the immersion :(
Other that that i enjoyed the book, and Peter Kenny does his narration so incredibly well!

Amazing
The book is intriguing, I have been listening closely to it all along. The reader is great but at times I experience that it is hard for him to give the characters different voices, there are a great deal of characters though so I don't blame him for this, he does a great job as it is. And with the cliffhanger I can't wait to start with the 5th and last book of the series.

Better and better
The story is really pickung up in this book and overall I am very happy with the listening experience. Fantastic work. The only thing I didn‘t entirely enjoy was the reader‘s impression of Vilgefortz, he sounded a bit too over-acted as the villain - I would have prefered him to have a smooth and silky voice instead.
All in all I can only recommend this audio book to any and all Witcher fans.
