    Description

Detective Peter Porteous is called to Cranwell Lake, where the body of a teenager has been discovered. After trawling through the missing persons files, he deduces that the corpse is Michael Grey, an enigmatic and secretive young man who was reported missing by his foster parents in 1972. For country prison officer Hannah Morton, it is the shock of her life. Michael had been her boyfriend, and she had been with him the night he disappeared.

The news report that a body has been found brings back dreaded and long-buried memories from her past....

Never quite got into the story

It's always a bad sign when your thoughts are drifting off while listening to a book. This happened frequently here. It's hard to describe what's wrong with it... In my opinion the writing is a bit inconsistent and sometimes it's hard to follow (that might be better when reading the book)

The characters are OK, but somehow the story doesn't build on them. There are many "dead end roads" in the plot which don't lead to anything and don't add any dramatic elements. No real twists, just a way too obvious suspect.

The resolution or climax comes too quick and and is over in a blink.

Mr. Telfer was the actual reason I picked the book. He's one of my favorite story tellers, but here he couldn't rescue the plot. I'll give the author another try because I did like the characters.
