    Description

Clio might be a nymph living in exile among humans. And she might possess the rare ability to mimic any magic she sees. And she might have just seriously ticked off the most powerful family of spell weavers in the Underworld. But she is not in love with an incubus.

Lyre is the rebellious black sheep of the Weaver family, and he's the only reason she survived her recent Underworld "vacation". He's also the sexiest thing she's ever seen. Together, they have to track down a catastrophically dangerous magic - a magic he created, she sort of stole, and they both lost - before his family gets their hands on it.

And that means fighting alongside him in a desperate attempt to avert complete disaster. But she is definitely not in love with him. At least, she's pretty sure she's not. Mostly sure. Maybe sure? Crap.

    Mostly good

Overall, the book is mostly enjoyable. There's lots of action which keeps it interesting. What's really disappointing is the number of times that the main character acts like a dimwit. I can't understand it. There are many times where she's extremely skilled and defeats enemies with ease. Then there's other times that she sounds like a whiny naive child, or just stands there doing nothing while watching things go horribly wrong, or doesn't use the powers we were previously told she possesses. Why can't we get a female character who is consistently smart and capable, especially from a female author? There should be challenges and failures along the way of course, but not because the character acts like a different person. This was portrayed in both the writing and the female narration. It was frustrating to listen to some parts. The whiny parts were the worst.

Pretty good story, female narrator can't pronounce

The storyline is good, as is usual with Annette Marie's writing, however, Melissa Moran has some weird "accent" or something and needs to TAKE SOME LANGUAGE LESSONS ON HOW TO PRONOUNCE WORDS IN ENGLISH!!

MELISSA HORRIBLY MUTILATES MANY WORDS BY NOT PRONOUNCING THE LETTER "T."

It may be a regional accent or a New York accent or something, but she mispronounces at least these words over and over again: Curtains, Tightened, Button, Frightened. Instead of correctly pronouncing the middle 'T' correctly, she simply drops the letter as if it doesn't belong in the word, when it Damn Well Does Deserve to be pronounced!!

She will say "CUR - ANS" instead of "CUR- TAINS," or "TIGH-END" instead of "TIGH-TENDED" or "BU-EN" instead of correctly using the letter 'T' and pronouncing it "BU-TEN."
She also slaughters frightened into being "FRY-ENED,"instead of the correct "FRY-TEN-ED."
She really needs some language pronunciation correction treatment by a Speech Pathologist as IT IS VERY ANNOYING TO HEAR ENGLISH PRONUNCIATIONS BEING SLAUGHTERED SO BADLY! (And as you can guess, she would mispronounce at least one word in the last sentence.)

    Errrmmm...

This book is a prime example of lackadaisical writing meant to cheat the reader of a credit. The first book was engaging enough for me to splurge on the second annnnnnd it is a travesty. Asinine, pedantic, wheedling internal dialogue from a previously discerning heroine just to make a word count....just NO. Not the first time or the worst time, but the time I write about it

I got so MAD at this book!!!!

So Clio and Lyre are on a mission to get the KLOC back from Erik punk, tale when Clio just all of a sudden starts displaying these ninja like mimics and moves that I am here for.... I mean girl power and all that. Lyre is still his deadly seductive self so all in all it's good. Now this is why I took a star off. I love the fact that Clio is more assertive and bad tale but there are times when that part of her should have come out and she just underperforms. To find out you were lied to, betrayed, and cast away should set of you FTS moment and have you getting revenge. She just kept disappointing me over and over again when she didn't have that I'm done with this bull moment. maybe in book 3.... Maybe.

    Action Packed Sequel!

    By Annette Marie
Narrated by Greg Templay and Melissa Moran

This was a great sequel. It's action packed and doesnt focus so much on the romance. Some interesting new characters are brought into the story with a 50/50 chance of being there to help or hinder the outlaws.

The fast pace of the story allows for a lot of ground to be covered. Clio seems halt in her mental development. She was betrayed in the first book and multiple times in this book. However, when they realize who is actually the "bad guy", she goes on and on about how it isn't possible.

Also, the whole virgin thing is annoying and doesnt make any sense. I've ranted about the use of virgins as a plot in previous reviews so I wont repeat myself again. Just know that I find it cliche and not needed to push this story forward.

I would have liked to see Clio behave more maturely during the last portion of the book. You cant be snarky, risking everything to rescue dudes you just met, and then go into little girl mode the moment stuff gets real. It just seemed like she took a step back instead of forward.

3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.

    My notes while reading:

The bad guy threatens to count to 10, but actually counts down from 10 🤦🏽‍♀️ Oh brother🤣

Why not determine what's holding Ash to Haites and then try to help him fix it??? Then he will be free and might stay and help them.

If the magically folk took control of earth because humans were making weapons of mass destruction, is that not the same type of weapon Ash created with the KLOC?

If human numbers are low, why wouldn't more magical folk live on Earth instead of their home planets?

interesting, want to see what happens next

I really want to know what happens next. loved the dialog. out made the characters seem real. Keep going in this direction. I would like to see the heroine a little more decisive though

    Vivid and never boring!

I actually read the Steel and Stone series first and then read these. WIsh they'd come out in reverse but the story is definitely worth listening too! Lyre and Clio are some of my new favorites! Highly recommend them if you are looking for something different and full of adventure!

    Good Read

I love Annette Marie and the characters and story were A+ as usual!! Performance was too notch. My only complaint was that I felt like once things got going I was filled with anxiety and on my feet for most of the book (and for the others in this series). I really enjoyed the story, it was interesting and the characters were so well thought out... I just like a little less anxiety 😂😂 I highly suggest reading Annette's Guild Codex series, it is awesome!!
