    Description

Rediscover the captivating post-apocalyptic world of the Change with the latest in the New York Times best-selling series.

The spirit of Prince John, the brother of Crown Princess Orlaith, has fallen captive to the power of the Yelolow Raja and his servant, the Pallid Mask. Prince John's motley band of friends and followers, led by Captain Pip of Townsville and Deor Godulfson, the bard and master of magic, must lead a quest through realms of shadow and dream to rescue Prince John from a threat far worse than death.

Meanwhile, Reiko and Orlaith muster their kingdoms for war, making common cause with the reborn Kingdom of Hawaii. But more than weapons or even the dark magic of the cannibal sorcerers of Pyongyang threaten them. Orlaith's lover, Alan Thurston, is more than he appears.

In the tropical waters off Hilo and Pearl Harbor, and among the jungles and lost cities of the Ceram Sea, a game will be played with the fate of the world at stake.

It is becoming Soooo painful - - -

I am just about ready to say good by and good riddance to the saga. I’ve read and listened to them all and loved them until the last three volumes . The plot line has been stretched beyond the breaking point. Questionable if I could bring myself to read/listen to another volume.

    A disappointment

I found this to be rather disappointing. It spent much too long in the supernatural world and lost the excitement that is present in the rest of the series. It was like watching a Dr Who episode.

Worst one in the Change series

Wandering . The thread back to Dies the Fire she is in peril. The travel through the spirit world is tedious.

    Disappointed in this latest volume.

this latest edition was difficult to get through. luckily being an audiobook it was doable. The repetitive nature of the series has come to the point of ridiculousness.

Worst book SM has ever put out

This felt like a meth fueled piece of Bad Fan Fiction. It was horrible. I hope the next one is better. Although, it would be hard pressed not to be. This book was truly awful.

    decent

Too much of the story was a dream and didn't flow as well as the previous books in the series.

The Sea Peoples by S.M. Stirling

I am a great fan of Stirling’s Change series, and love following all the families & offspring of the original founders. And Todd McLaren is again outstanding in his performance. I was disappointed in the nightmarish hallucinogenic world. It seemed like he was competing in a macabre contest with someone on a bad trip as to who could create the most nauseatingly disgusting horrific dream. I can understand the author probably being tired of his creation & wanting to quit, but why ruin his epic for his fans?

    Disappointing. Random side plot.

Disappointing. Last book in series, and it has nothing to do with the other books.

    way to much navel gazing

the performance is amazingly well done. the story consists of way to much navel gazing, is overly filled with symbology that feels like the author patting himself on the back fir his cleverness. I skipped every dream sequence and missed nothing. so this book is only about 1/3rd the length advertised. anyone that says the dreak sequences were nuanced is just someone who enjoys echo chambers way to much.

    too metaphysical

in a departure from his normal storytelling a large portion of this book takes place " between shadow and the waking world". Not my new favorite but still good.
