Description

There will be a battle, and you will need to protect your heart.

Kjell of Jeru had always known who he was. He'd never envied his brother or wanted to be king. He was the bastard son of the late King Zoltev and a servant girl, and the ignominy of his birth had never bothered him.

But there is more to a man than his parentage. More to a man than his blade, his size, or his skills, and all that Kjell once knew has shifted and changed. He is no longer simply Kjell of Jeru, a warrior defending the crown. Now he is a healer, one of the Gifted, and a man completely at odds with his power.

Called upon to rid the country of the last vestiges of the Volgar, Kjell stumbles upon a woman who has troubling glimpses of the future and no memory of the past. Armed with his unwanted gift and haunted by regret, Kjell becomes a reluctant savior, beset by old enemies and new expectations. With the woman by his side, Kjell embarks upon a journey where the greatest test may be finding the man she believes him to be.

My fav author + a new fav narrator = gold

Amy Harmon once again drew me in with beautiful, lyrical language and a captivating story that touched my soul and filled my well. I liked Kjell's story even more than the first book in the series, which I wasn't expecting. The narrator had perfect delivery and is someone I'll definitely be looking up to discover other books.

OMG YESSSSS

Where does The Queen and the Cure rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right there at the top! Steve West is THE BEST, for this kind of book especially. I just LOVE the narration (full disclosure--I'm only part way through, but I've read the book before so I already know I love the story itself).

What did you like best about this story?

Ugh, what did I NOT like about this book?! Amy Harmon just writes exactly what I want to read. So heartfelt, almost poetic but also super consumable--I always finish her stuff so quickly.

What does Steve West bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is the dreamiest. The. Dreamiest. He is the perfect voice for Kjell.
There was a narrator vote a little while back where people got to vote on who their favorite was and I am so glad (but not surprised) that he won BECAUSE HE IS AMAZING.I certainly voted for him!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Oh no, not at all.
Can't you tell from everything I've already said?
...there *may* have been some tearing up at points.

Any additional comments?

10/10 would use a credit on this again.

Thank the narrator!

Loved the voice. Loved the delivery. He made this story all the more likeable because of his delivery. He gave his character life!

As to the story: it’s not as exciting and wonderful as the 1st one. I guess it’s more to quench your cravings to continue the storyline of The Bird and The Sword and probably find more depth about kjell but thank the narrator this book became exciting!

Enjoyable story

This story continues the tale and does not end in a cliffhanger which is nice for a change.

Wow!

I love this story. It's beautifully written. I was engaged throughout and couldn't believe how quickly it seemed to go.

Narrator:
Steve West-4 stars for a great job. The female voices were way too breathy. Sometimes they felt like he was trying too hard to sound feminine, it just didn't work for me.
