Great Story, Distracting Narrator

I loved Scars. Path to Heaven follows up very well. The tale is a great addition to the overall arc of the HH series and I love how distinct the 5th Legion is compared to their peers.

My only real criticism is the use of accents by the narrator. The accents for the Chogoran Scars is something of a stereotypical Asian accent which is silly and annoying and makes each of the characters sound the same so their individual voices and characters get muted. the narrator also pronounces Yesugei laughably incorrectly. In an audiobook you need distinct voices for each character so you can organize who is who and who is speaking and the narrator's reliance on a silly accent makes each of the Scars sound the same, except for the one Terran born Scar, which is dissapointing.

A very good book, but narrator didn't make it easy

The story was gripping, and was a great continuation of the White Scars story, but the book has a lot of shifting perspectives and while John Banks generally is a good narrator, he gave zero sign when the perspectives changed, not so much as an extra breath between lines, which made some part hard to follow

A good addition

I had skipped this previously, but doubling back gave it a shot. It is a solid bridge piece with some insights into other background info. Shibhan Khan is always a badass.

Hard to follow

I don't know if the story isn't as good, but I know I have difficulty following this specific voice actor. He speaks each word well and all with a level of import as if he were reciting poetry rather than telling a story. It's like each word has immense importance and yet isn't connected to the words that came before or those that come after. As a result rather than the story unfolding the words all feel divorced from context and pass through me without meaning anything. Parts with dialogue are easier to pay attention to when he's putting on a specific voice, but without actually knowing how we got to each part it's all just confusing. It's a shame. I like the White Scars from previous books and wish I knew more of what happened in this one. It would be nice if there were multiple voice actors to choose from, because I imagine this voice actor isn't as difficult for some others to follow but his performance really doesn't work for me.

Very hard to follow along...

Forced myself to finish the book, but it felt more like work then enjoyment... Too many characters, jumps around, story is hard to follow. I would not recommend

Amazing

Wish we had more white scars books. By far the most underrated legion in-lore. The khagan is such a levelheaded character

Good listen

Wasn’t bad had a good scars battle wasn’t boring but could’ve been better without the drama with shiban on to the next book

Not skippable

great listen, slow start with a strong ending. Tells a lot about the white scars and leads into their next part in the story

A great view into the Great Khan

The only negative remark I can think of to make for this audiobook pertain to the accents/voices used for some of the characters. Some are phenomenal like Mortarion, but others make no sense at all.
