    Surpassed my expectations!!

Having loved two series that this author wrote, I was both eager and hesitant to dive into this series, eager because his writing is amazing and hesitant because this was one of the first series he wrote and I didn't want to be disappointed because his other series are phenomenal. I need not have worried though because I ended up loving this series.

Plot wise this was incredibly fast paced and exciting. The action starts right away and it's breakneck speed from there. I had to take several deep breaths when I finished this because it took my breath away with it's relentless pace. Absolutely non stop!!! It's not just the action that was non stop, it was also the emotions I had while reading this. I think I went through them all!! When the gang leave the biosphere, they come out to a world that's changed forever. I loved how the author portrayed the aliens and found myself quite frightened by them, especially with what they were doing! He has created a unique spin on the classic invading alien story and I raced through this to see how it'd end.

One thing I've seen with this author, is his amazing ability to write great and memorable characters. This one is no different!! Sophie is one strong, fierce main character and I was rooting for her the whole way through. She is smart, confident, headstrong, and relatable. Each of the characters are well written and developed and I pretty much liked them all!!

In all, this surpassed my expectations. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but what I got was an exciting, edge of your seat read. It drew me in and I devoured it!! It's movie worthy good! If you're on the fence about reading this, don't be. Give it a go... you might be pleasantly surprised! It's fiction, it's there to be enjoyed :)

White Sands and Red Sands are short stories.... In White Sands, we see brothers Jeff and David, along with their stepmom, heading to see their dad, Michael. From there we see what happens them from the moment the Orbs appear. In Red Sands, we see more of the boys and also get a look at Dr. Hoffman and his escape ship.

Both of the short stories were very much needed, in order to answer some unanswered questions from the main books. I loved seeing the boys and getting to know what exactly happened them. I was also glad to read about Dr Hoffman, though I'm still not sure what to think of him!!

Well written and developed, these shorts, and indeed the whole series is a must read!!

Bronson Pinchot is one of my favourite narrators. He has a staggering array of tones and voices and always brings a story to life with his inflections. Loved his narration of these!

Wanted to like it, Brick Tamland narrates

    Storyline: Had potential, never delivered.

Character Development: Poor, didn't develop any likable characters, Everything read like a young adult novel where the characters acted/reacted as high school students. This is a group of professionals that were hand-picked to test a mission to Mars and when the first thing goes wrong, everybody loses their damned minds like a bunch of kids? It pretty much goes downhill from there.

Narration: Normal dialogue was fine, inner-dialogue was fine. Everything falls apart with this narrator when there is any dialogue that is more passionate than a normal talking voice. The only way I can describe it is to compare it to Brick Tamland from Anchorman. LOUD NOISES! No real inflection or nuance to the dialogue, just loud and monotonous. Very monotone and just a volume increase in the narrator's voice. It's pretty ridiculous actually, I got to the point where I envisioned Brick delivering the lines every time for every character. There's just no voice acting here on the part of the narrator.

    No science and lame characters

This was really awful, and I gave up after about 2/3rds of book 1. I took a risk because of reviews and the length of this thing for 1 credit, and wow was that a mistake. This thing reads like it was written by a 10 year old. An AI named "Alexia" seriously? "The best science team in the world" has a whiny psychologist, a computer hacker, and your miscellaneous biologist and physicist? Geez. The author didn't even try to do any science research. Calling this science fiction is like calling the Simpsons drama. If you like SF, go elsewhere. This is more like poorly done teen romance novel written with immature adult characters and insultingly poor science babble.

Post apocalyptic fiction at its best!

This character-driven, alien invasion thriller series was my first introduction to this author's writing and I loved it. The layers of conflict and tension do not let up. It is fast-paced and filled with nail-biting suspense. Thoroughly enjoyable.

    Great series!

I really enjoyed the Orbs series! Humans struggle against aliens in a unique situation. The characters were compelling and the story kept a great pace and roped me in very quickly. If you enjoy Sci-Fi, you'll love this series!

    Couldn’t make it through

Just a poorly thought out feel bad book

Please never let me accidentally pick a book with this reader again. So annoying and unrealistic. Professional characters screaming emotionally about everything.

    Disappointing

The book started out promising with a good premise. But it never got of the ground for me. I thought the dialogue was too contrived. The characters were not interesting and the ones that showed promise were killed off.

I also had problems with some of the details: one AI computer had to be the dumbest and the other I never understood why you would give a computer a Russian accent. It made no sense.

I kept waiting and waiting for the story to evolve, but eventually gave up on it and returned the book. Unfortunately, I’ll never be able to get back the 10+ hours I invested in it.

I was going into this book with HI expectations. I have read several of Nicholas Sansdury Smith's books and they are great.  This one did not disappoint.
    Orbs 2
Great story!  I like the story alot before.  Now with the development of characters including the organics I couldn't stop listening. G
    Orbs 3
Great.  I was very taken aback by the ending.  It was not what I thought.  You will love this book especially if you like apocalypse type books.

I'm loving these books.  I highly recommend them to everyone!

    Don’t waste your time

This book is very poorly written. Bad facts, bad story. You find yourself wishing the Characters would just die so you could move on. So many open plot holes. A 6th grader could have written a better sci-if novel.
