Just like when you build your own house in real life, there are tons of materials you can choose from in Minecraft. Unlike with your real life house, you can choose materials that are more expensive than you could afford or way more daring then you would ever dream of actually doing. Still, there does need to be practicality involved. In Minecraft you can play with the relationship between style and functionality far more than you can in the real world. Too often in the real world you must choose function because you do not have the time and resources to choose the style you truly want. In Minecraft you are able to be dominated by your ideas and style and not simply by what is convenient.
