Description
"The end of the world doesn't happen with a bang. It takes slightly longer than that but not by much. Research projects, Gross Anatomy class, tests, and fancy coffee drinks will cease to be important. The fight for her life will become the only thing that matters."
Reagan McClane is a prodigy med school student on the brink of a brilliant career, but the United States and the rest of the world are headed toward total economic and social collapse. And it doesn't take more than a few hours for mass crime, looting, and pillaging to spread across the country like a plague. A brutal attack at her university leads to a fight for her life before Reagan barely makes it home to the safety of her awaiting grandparents and sisters on their family farm in Tennessee.
Three sexy Army Rangers, one of whom is married to Reagan's eldest sister, will join the McClane family to build their farm into an impenetrable fortress that they will fight to keep, no matter the cost. Reagan will find that defending her hardened, scarred heart against ever letting anyone in again will prove even more difficult than survival as one Ranger, in particular, tries to invade it. The McClane Apocalypse is a story of love, survival, and the importance of family during the worst of times imaginable.

Great Book, horrible narrattion
Would you consider the audio edition of The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1 to be better than the print version?
No.
What did you like best about this story?
Nothing
How did the narrator detract from the book?
lt seemed the narrator was reading the story for the first time, without having prereading of the story. Her disjointed reading caused me to stop enjoying the story, many times. This should be re-recorded, with someone who has at least read it a couple of times before putting to tape.

Good book but....
I would have loved this book if it wasnt for the narration... probably the worst ive ever heard. I was hoping they would have found someone else to do the next book but looks like it wont happen. Buy this book and read it but dont listen unless you like the sound of a robot.

Good story, poor execution.
I am very torn on my feelings about this book. Let's start with the good. The story is told from multiple points of you and gives you an Ray of subplots to follow in the whole story. It is situated on a farm in Tennessee and has a nice homey five. That's where the good ends.
The narration is flat. There is nothing worse than reading a book with no voice characteristics. It was also was short and clipped. And I felt like there was no emotion. Of course that can be contributed to the book itself as well. The story had a lot of potential but it just missed the important details. That's great that the author put in medical and military terminology. But that's all it had. I felt no emotion no attachment to the characters. I felt like it was right there just to beyond my grasp.
As I've said, the book is a good story. Great foundation and raw material just poorly put together. Because of this I was planning on getting the second book anyway to continue the story. It's not on Audible. I'm the type of person that has a 2 Hour commute every day for work. I don't get to finish the story unless I want to sit at home and read it. Therefore I will never figure out how the story ends.

Great book, but poor narrator
What made the experience of listening to The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1 the most enjoyable?
Preppers reign. People who prepare might make it through the SHTF. The also stick together which would be vital.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is John, in love with a girl carrying many hag ups. If she weren't so cute he would have walked away.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I don't like to criticize but the average 6th grader could do a better job of reading. There were no voice changes, and she couldn't even get through a sentence without pausing. I listen to about 2 books a week, but would start listening to the radio again if this is what all readers sounded like. Sorry Andrya Ambro; but you need to find another profession.
Any additional comments?
Because the story was well written and interesting, I would try the next in the series.

Has The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1 turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. Just this narrator

disappointment
Any additional comments?

Horrible narration kills a great story!
Would you try another book from Kate Morris and/or Andrya Ambro?
I would try and have read the entire McClane Apocalypse series of books. I don't know if I would give Andrya Ambro another chance as a narrator though. she came off robotic at times. It was as if she was using a computer program and it was her first read though the book.
What other book might you compare The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1 to and why?
It was very similar to most post apocalyptic books with the romance twist thrown into it.
What didn’t you like about Andrya Ambro’s performance?
She came off robotic at times. It was as if she was using a computer program and it was her first read though the book.
Do you think The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes because there has been 4 others already written in the series.

Great teotwawki for the romantic
Narrator was a little monotonous but the story was cute. More of a shtf for the woman who loves a good romance.

Save your credit and choose a different book.
Any additional comments?
First, the narrator was awful. I would not have finished this book if it hadn't been for the fact I had a day spent in an area with no service so I couldn't download a new one. It almost sounds like the narrator was using some computer program to narrate the book. It may not have been all automated but there were certainly words mispronounced like a computer was trying to pronounce a word it wasn't programmed for. If it wasn't a program...
Next, I thought for sure this was written by some extremely old-fashioned man trying to write from a woman's perspective and when I got to the end of the book was surprised to find it was written by a woman. There was not one woman in this book that could take care of themselves and needed the big, strong spec ops guys to take care of them. (spoiler alert) it was so bad they literally had a barefoot woman in the kitchen no good at anything else but cooking and looking like a super sweet farmer's daughter. I'm pretty traditional and this poor little women stance killed me. The fact that the grandfather is pairing off his grandkids and allowing single men to share rooms with them... arranged marriage much?! There are so many other good PA fiction out there... save your credit and choose a different one.

Save your money and time
What disappointed you about The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1?
Condescending, redundant, poorly written. The narration was poorly produced. Narration stilted with lack of flow.
How could the performance have been better?
Get a different narrator. Might make the writing sound less condescending and sophomoric.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1?
It needs a complete rewrite. There are a lot of inconsistencies.
Any additional comments?
The subjects seems to be well researched, i.e. medical, firearms, horses, etc. Character development is weak, though Regan seems to be the best developed.
It's hard to believe that Susan wasn't prepared to deliver the afterbirth, since she had already given birth to 2 children. And what experienced mother isn't concerned with her baby's fontanel?

book with identity crisis
this book doesn't know if it wants to be an action or romance so it does nether of them well. This but needs a better editor. It is missing a lot of technical material that could better explain what is happening. meny of the problems that are experienced are easily solved and with out sacrifice. I personally don't not like it when all the good guys win.

8th grade Right wing fan fiction
Yes yes I get it. God, guts and guns make you free. If you like your fiction like you like a Big Mac and Budweiser, then this is for you. Predictable, stereotypical, cookie cutter 2nd amendment fan fiction for the semi literate ugly American. No thinking required.
