Description

The Cadian Gate is broken, and the Imperium is riven in two. The might of the Traitor Legions, kept shackled for millennia behind walls of iron and sorcery, has been unleashed on a darkening galaxy. Among those seeking vengeance on the Corpse Emperor’s faltering realm are the Death Guard, once proud crusaders of the Legiones Astartes, now debased creatures of terror and contagion.

Mighty warbands carve bloody paths through the void, answering their lord primarch’s call to war. And yet for all their dread might in arms, there is no escape from the vicious legacies of the past, ones that will pursue them from the ruined daemon-worlds of the Eye of Terror and out into the smouldering wastes of the Imperium Nihilus.

Nurgle more than just a plague God

After reading/listening to this book I’m a full convert to Grandfather Nurgle’s way of life. When you realize how bad the people in the empire are treated it’s just best to go with Nurgle’s philosophy

Great Insight

This story really shines insight into the Death Guard and the inter-communication with other traitor legions. Also really shows the other side of an imperial vs. chaos battle.

The Death Guard walk the galaxy once more

This audiobook details the story of a Death Guard warband, The Lords of Silence. The characters (mostly villains!) are incredibly fleshed out. Each has their own agenda and personality. Many iconic characters are included in the story, such as Mortarion and Typhus in their 10,000 year old rotting forms. A fantastic narrative and incredible voice acting make the Lords of Silence a very fun book! I'm a fan of the Death Guard, and I enjoyed every minute of the experience.

Docking a star for one reason alone...

The volume levels need increased so bad it isn't funny. Such a great story so well writen and preformed, but you can't hear much of it while doing anything. As an aside... AUDIBLE GIVE US VOLUME BOOST!

Finally.

I am biased when it comes to Death Guard as I play them in tabletop, but this was exactly what I wanted. I have waited some time for a Death guard novel and was not dissapointed. The characters had that slow methodical cadence to them that I expect from the sons of the Rotten Angel. The combat was satisfiying, and the insights from the characters were interesting. I was pleased with the descriptions, which were gross but not overly so. I can only speak as someone who is already a big fan, but I found the book very enjoyable. Chris Wraight wrote a detailed delve into the depressed, disgusting world of the Death Guard, and John Banks gave yet another terrific performance.

Disgusting and full of character

A must read for any Death Guard fan! Chris Wraight takes the characterizations he cut his teeth on from Dark Imperium and turns it up to 11. The characters are disgusting, evil, petty killers but you can’t help but want to know their stories. As a giant Death Guard fan this novel was an utter treat to listen to!

More of a window into the Death Guard than a book

In general, the book focuses much more on describing the inner working of the Death Guard than anything else. Unfortunately, I feel the story suffered because of that. It gets pretty tedious listening to more and more descriptions of how things look on their ship and how disgusting everything is, so I found myself half-listening to it most of the time.

I would recommend only to real Death Guard fans, which I am not.

meh

I am really into the deathguard and learning all their Lore, this book had some genuinely interesting insight into their day to day lives that I thought was awesome. the story arc and combat however really had no substance narratively and ultimately found myself zoning out during what was supposed to be climactic battles.

you can skip unless you play deathguard or are really interested in how things are from their perspective

Fantastic

The jump forward and back in time is a little jarring at first, but once you understand the order of events it turns itself from merely a remembrance from the characters into a greater mystery.

The writing is really good, and the narrator is one of my favorites just from how he gives the Lords of Silence unique, yet grotesque voices. They sound like rotting, pus filled voices, but each with a quirk to make them different.

Satisfies that festering Death Guard itch!

The putrid flavor of the XIVth Legion is done very well by writer and reader both.

9/10 farting little lords.
