A cryptic message from Nana as she dies sends Ruth rushing to her special place in nature, The Listening Tree, for help. Transported through time by the Tree, from 1896 to 2035, she meets Michael and Arabeth from the future. They learn they are members of the Society of Rainwalkers—humans able to time travel through trees. The Trees need their help, or by 2050, climate change will devastate the planet.
