Description
The most important case of his life.
Only this time the defendant is himself.
The law of innocence is unwritten. It will not be found in a leather-bound code book. It will never be argued in a courtroom. In nature, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In the law of innocence, for every man not guilty of a crime there is a man out there who is. And to prove true innocence the guilty man must be found and exposed to the world.
Heading home after winning his latest case, Defence Attorney Mickey Haller - the Lincoln Lawyer - is pulled over by the police. They open the trunk of his car to find the body of a former client.
Haller knows the law inside out. He will be charged with murder. He will have to build his case from behind bars. And the trial will be the trial of his life.
Because Mickey Haller will defend himself in court.
With watertight evidence stacked against him, Haller will need every trick in the book to prove he was framed.
But a not-guilty verdict isn't enough. In order to truly walk free, Haller knows he must find the real killer - that is the law of innocence....
Crime doesn't come better than Connelly.

In the courtroom
It feels like we are in the courtroom with the accused. An incredible experience.
Well written and narrated!

Michael Connelly At His Best
I have listened and enjoyed every Michael Connelly book at this one did not disappoint.
Mikey Haller is the victim of the perfect frame. Can he wiggle out? Of course, the listner is not really worried. After all, the Lincoln Lawyer must triumph to keep the series going. Yet the plot is weaved so skillfully that the suspense never lets down. Then there is the gallery of characters we know so well, nail biting court drama and a satisfactory ending which leaves you smiling and waiting for the next book .
Certainly a re-listen for me

Good, but to much politics
I liked it. but was it really necessary to criticise Donald Trump and Fox News? it didn't make a difference to the story.

Excellent Book
The narration couldn’t be improved on. Really did bring the characters alive. First rate. Very good story too. I couldn’t wait to listen to the next installment.Mickey Haller and Bosch. Like to read more of this combination. I really enjoy the Lincoln Lawyer series. Would like to have heard how Bishop ended up. More could have been made of his involvement in plot. Thoroughly good listen.

So-so story ruined
Melodramatic narrator spoils a mediocre story line. The final reveal is anti-climactic. For fans only.

Another great Lincoln Lawyer story
I enjoyed the book. It's a tricky law case, the story is fast moving, just complicated enough, and set in Michael Connelly's great LA universe. It helps that Harry Bosch appears. Didn't give it 5 stars mainly because the narrator reads everything in the same exaggerated intense manner. He's got a good voice for mystery books, but emphasis becomes pointless when every sentence is emphasised.

Another brilliant Connelly story.
Fantastic and engaging story that fkows great in typical Michael Connelly style with sensational narration. You won't be disappointed by this one. Highly recommended.

After a few bad ones, finally a good book by MC
Haller's return is excellent. The book grabs us by the throat from the first action and holds it almost to the end. This time the main accused is Haller himself, and each action gives the impression of increasing pressure and the passing time. In addition, an experienced prosecutor stands in front of him, and she wants to be successful at all costs. This combination of characters and action gives us a really dynamic mix and draws us into the story. The reader is excellent and makes the atmosphere. The solution leaves room for a sequel, and we'll probably see it sometime.

Excellent story
Excellent! Such a great story. Kept me occupied for hours!
Keep up the excellent standard. So many other authors get a good name and then dish out rubbish to publish as many books as they can without keeping up their original standard.

Be careful, Mr Conelly
Before I comment on the book itself, I need to say this: I am a long time lover of Mr Connelly's work. Bosch, Haller, Jennifer and Ballard are some of my favourite characters in fiction. The stories are always cohesive and engaging. This book is no exception. However Mr Connelly risks alienating a large part of his readership by engaging in politics. In this book he makes a number of references to the Trump presidency as if he believes his readers agree with him and the Hollywood elites and Big Tech. Around 50% of us don't, and history is rapidly coming down on the side that says Trump did NOT lie, as alleged in this book.
History may also recall the Wuhan virus differently than the way Mr Connelly seems to see things.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, But making flagrant claims, hidden in this case as being the opinions of Mr Haller, is fraught. I have pretty much every book you ever wrote, Mr Connelly, so I guess you already have my money, but I'll bet I'm not the only one who thinks introducing your political views is not in your best interest. I won't be discontinuing my reading of your novels, as Audible allows me to return them if I'm not pleased. BTW, I live in Australia, so my position on POTUS doesn't matter, but my position on TRUTH does.
Now, the book. Once again we have a court room drama, a genre in which Connelly excels. So nice to see Haller, Bosch, Cisco, Maggie, Lorna, Jennifer, and the two girls playing a big part in this one. Of all my Connelly characters, I reckon Mickey is my fave. Bosch is great but so focussed. Haller brings doubt to the legal process in Calif, something which is needed. John Lescroart Does this with his Dismass Hardy character ( check it out ), but Connelly does it better..
In the past I have always given this author's books a five. I would'd love to do so this time, but I do not like being talked at as if an alternative opinion does not matter.
Don't get so rich that you believe you are "elite", Mr Connelly. Life is not that long.

An excellent Mickey Haller addition
For those who like the Mickey Haller series read by Peter Giles, this does not disappoint.
The story is well crafted and brings together elements from Mickeys past.
There is a review lamenting the politics of this book, but while contemporary to the period of its setting, I struggled to find ANY reference to either Fox News or Trump.
This is a bitter battle between the DA and an innocent man, leaving you feeling lucky that that man is Mickey Haller. Enjoy.

Pulling you in
I usually differentiate between books in which I have to motivate myself of hearing and those which pull me in. This book pulled me in. It was very good and is highly recommended.

Loved the story and the narrator’s voice
Even the best story gets spoiled if you find the narrator’s voice unappealing. This was the perfect combination though and I just hope I will be able to find another audiobook this good soon. Well done!!!
