    Description

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal.

When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

    meh, not worth the $30

I like Jim Butcher as the narrator for Marcone, but no one can beat James Marsters as Harry Dresden/Bob.

I strongly dislike the price point, how they believe a 3 hour book is worth the same price as a 15 hour book is way beyond me.

This was just a longer side story that while I'm glad we got *something* cause lord know it's gonna be another 3+ years before we get more Dresden, it didn't really move the story up whatsoever.

That bit in the beginning *SPOILER* about meeting with Lara Raith about terms of the first date had me thinking "Ok, at least we get something about that in here." but nope, we got baited.

All in all, if you can get this on sale it's a good listen to occupy a few car rides but other than that as much as I want to support Jim, I also know that I didn't get any value here.

I hope you all get more enjoyment than I have from this.

Unpopular Opinion: I didn't like it.

James Marsters needs to re-record this. Maybe it was the jarring voices? The fact that Bob sounded like a pointlessly perverted cartoon, and that we couldn't pick an accent for the new, Nameless antagonist, couldn't distract from the badly written dialogue.

The stakes were low, the heavy hitters all made a Cameo, and I'm not really sure what got accomplished at the end. I have loved every Dresden book and short story... except this one.

Sorry, Jim. Still looking forward to the next book, though!

Not really Dresden without James Marsters.

The short story was only okay. For them to release it with its own audio release, I expected something much more epic instead of something that could have been lumped into a collection later. And the fact that James Marsters wasn't part of this project makes it feel more like fan fiction in a real Dresden story, despite it having been read by Jim Butcher himself.

    Gotta be honest…Little bit disappointed

I’d waited n waited for the next book. I thought i’Its gonna be interesting to see just WHERE Harry could go after this’, ya know. I mean with a daughter, with Murphy gone!, Thomas virtually gone! and Lara Raith! Holy crap!
I’ve been a die hard Harry fan since the beginning. I absolutely loved his character, the banter with Murphy…I’d actually laugh out loud and could sometimes predict his responses.
For a while during Battleground I thought surely it was the end to the series. And was saddened.
So when I saw one was being released this month I was like ‘Ok, cool, that wasn’t the end…..then I was disappointed that James Marsters wasn’t narrating it but thought I should give it a chance.
Honestly it was like someone else wrote it, as well as read it. Harry wasn’t Harry, Bob wasn’t Bob, even Marcone was too different. Sorry, it was just too different.
If James Marsters doesn’t narrate the next one, I won’t buy it on audible. I’ll wait and read it myself so I’ll hear them the way they’re supposed to be.
I’ll reserve complete judgement on Harry’s personally, or lack of, due to events that had happened in #17. But just…this wasn’t a Dresden File.

Back to your roots, but more original than ever.

Jim, ya done good. This is an intensely good detective story, not merely a Dresden novel, but a tight legal story easily on the level of John Grisham or similar style, with just enough magic to give it spice.

If you are looking to get into Dresden for the very first time, this is perfect. If you’re coming back after a long absence, this is perfect. If you just wanted MORE DRESDEN, this story is perfect.

Also, feel free to die laughing at the blooper reel included with the novel, I was on the floor.

    Stinkeroo

Pretty bad, not even up to put Butchers lowest standards. Narration was overdramatized, very high school tryout level, and the writing was just plain awful.

    Harry's back, albeit so briefly

I loved it. Very much back to basic's with Harry and his PI business. Justice and all that's good Dresden style. I've missed Harry and even thou James isn't narrating it was excellent and very well done. Only thing missing was Maggie and Mouse but over all a wonderful short story with some good old Harry Magic once again.

    Epic

It was so fun to listen to Butcher reading his own work! I would love to play DND with him sometime. He did a great job with the voices. (Love the blooper real at the end)

    Best of old and new!

This story reads like one of the stories in the earlier parts of the series, but with the impact of the later one clearly visible. It is an excellent little story!
Jim is also an absolutely fantastic narrator, and if Marsters wasn't as good as he is, I'd call for Jim to take over narrating the series!

    will hear it again

Good voice but no Marsters of the art . Very good story and a realy good bridge Harry got to build there between the average life and the supernatural in the shadow.

    It's fun

A nice little side quest/afternoon with Dresden. Reminding us that not every crisis has the potential to end the world. Just ruin someone's life.

    A Typical Harry Dresden

even it is a short one, this was a full grown Harry Dresden Story. Much Fun, exciting and with the typical Harry Dresden twist at the end. i really loved it.

I enjoyed Jim Butcher as Narrator too. It was really interessting to hear his Version of the Characters. I would enjoy hear him narrate another Story too.
