Not a real Nesbe
Being a fan of Jo Nesbe detectives I’m really disappointed. Soooo booooring, hardly made it up to an end. Not a Jo Nesbe style detective but a mediocre drama with no logic at all. Don’t lose your time on it. And also I didn’t like the reader as the main character is thirty something but the man sounds like he is above 80.

Enjoyable with lots of twists and turns
Mostly written in 1st Person so takes a while to get used to but after a while one feels comfortable. It had lots of twists in it which captured me. The ending was not what one expects. Well worth a read!

Well worth reading despite some flaws
I have read/listened to all the Harry Hole books. I found them entertaining and gripping but like many series there was more and more repetition and not enough character development. At the beginning of Kingdom I was agreeably surprised. The first half shows us the childhood and adolescence of the two main characters, the brothers. I felt that Nesbo did an excellent job with this book, better than the Harry Hole ones. More psychological background, more facets of the protagonists, less graphic violence.
But the second half was a disappointment. Not much development there, the story lost credibility, there were too many murders and too much getting away with it. Where was the editor, who should have encouraged changes? Such a shame. Nesbo clearly has more talent than he has shown before. And the book may still be worth reading despite the decline towards the end. Perhaps it was the desire to offer something different, something original, something new, when every possible crime seems to have been told already. I will still buy the next stand-alone Nesbo comes up with. I think there is something in the making and next time he might get it right till the last page. Because he is definitely getting better.

Not the Jo Nesbo I know
Jo Nesbo apparently has decided it is time for a new approach. No imminent danger or impending evil. The result is, in my humble opinion, rather disappointing.
