1984. Ronald Reagan runs for re-election. A risque young singer named Madonna scandalizes audiences at the first ever MTV Video Music Awards. Teens flock to the multiplex to watch Ghostbusters, Sixteen Candles, and The Karate Kid. Wendy’s poses the question: Where’s the beef? And at the Newingston Mall in suburban New Hampshire, every shopper simultaneously dissolves into a fizzing slurry of goo.
Everybody, that is, except teenage mall-queen Valery Belmont. Val just made varsity cheerleader. Prom is right around the corner. Minutes before the Gooing, her megacrush Jake asked her to go see Purple Rain after her shift at Orange Julius. Talk about terrible timing! God forbid the apocalypse should wait till after her date. Like, I’m so sure!
But Val is not alone; a ragtag group of mallrats have also somehow managed to survive the Gooing. As the group investigates this strange occurrence
Val meanwhile preparing for the date she refuses to believe has been cancelled
evidence begins to mount that the Gooing may not be isolated to the mall; it’s quite possible
likely even
that the entire global population has melted into goo.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, it turns out the goo is alive. And smart. And lethal. And hungry…Which is, like, totally getting in the way of Val making it to her date on time.
Oozing with absurdist humor, dripping with gnarly gore, and jiggling with enough 80s mall nostalgia to fill a food court, The Goo is a slime-soaked creature-feature that’ll knock your legwarmer off. Like, for sure.
