Description
Mikael Blomkvist is contacted by renowned scientist Professor Balder. Fearing for his life, but more concerned for his son's well-being, Balder wants Millennium to publish his story.
More interesting to Blomkvist than Balder's advances in Artificial Intelligence, is his connection with a certain female superhacker.
It seems that Lisbeth Salander, like Balder, is a target of ruthless cyber gangsters that will soon bring terror to the streets of Stockholm, the Millennium team, and Blomkvist and Salander themselves.

A Ripping Yarn
While it lacks the extreme darkness of the Larsen books, this has quite good pace and I thought read more like a ripping yarn. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Disappointing
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Doesn't measure up to the Larsson novels. The writing is full of clichés, and the characters all conform to particular stereotypes. It just isn't credible. Saul Reichlin does his best, but it must have been an uphill task for him.

The performance could be improved with woman voices
I felt the story a bit predictable. The performance could be improved with women voices. When a description of beautiful woman character that speaks with a masculine Foreign accent voice; it made me to forget that beautiful description. :(

Average and nothing compared to the earlier in the series
Clearly different from the earlier stories in the series. Lacked the thrill / mystery! But I am so in love with Lizbeth that can’t stop. Loved the ending

The Ghost of Stieg
Would you try another book from David Lagercrantz and George Goulding - translator and/or Saul Reichlin?
Hoorah for Saul!!
Any additional comments?
I think the author tried real hard, maybe that was the problem. It was quite entertaining in parts but mostly contrived and predictable.....still I listened to it all, I'm not going to return it, so I guess it took care of 16 hrs of my life.
[Is the wife gonna finish Stieg's version]???

Oh dear
This is the fourth book in the Millenium series. Mikael receives a call from a scientist to publish a disturbing story. Once again Lisbeth is involved as this time, cybercriminals target her. This series off started really well with the first, was ok with the second and third, and this one I struggled to finish listening to and enjoy. I was keen to hear it and how the story would develop further but found myself confused in the first bit and wondering where the main character, and title owner of the story, played such a small part therein. I will try to finish the series, but am struggling more and more to enjoy it.

Not Stieg Larsson but not bad!
Overall I really liked the book! Well once I got over Reichlin pronouncing Sal-an-Dar as Sa-lan-dar. There were shades of Larsson’s footprints scattered throughout the book and yes better had they not been of the fading ephemeral type, but at least they were there in the writing of Lagercrantz. I much prefer Simon Vance’s reading of the first 3 books, doesn’t mean Reichlin was terrible, just not Vance! One bit of criticism I have to add is that there was a significant lack of the energy and play offs generated from Lisbeth and Mikael....the underlying sense one got from having them together in the same book and their almost “real life” presence Larsson birthed them with in his former books. It was somewhat there but the chemistry from the written word rather than on screen I just didn’t feel! Nonetheless the book is well worth it and I’m looking forward to seeing the movie. I wanted to listen to the book first before seeing movie so I had an idea what to expect. I’m now ready for that. In the Russian/Chinese/USA/Facebook/Twitter days of hackers not so anonymous it gives one pause to wonder just how much we the people don’t know!

Good to meet Salander and Blomkvist again
Most of us were devastated, when we realized that we will not hear from Salander again after we finished the third part of the Millenium trilogy. She was such an unusual heroine and she stole her way into our hearts. Now David Lagercrantz made it possible, Salander is back and she did not lose anything of her ass kicking, grumpy attitude.
Overall Lagercrantz did not do a bad job, the characters are authentic and we really get the feeling of meeting old friends again. Still, there are a couple of minor things. Salander became a superhero, she is all by herself cracking the most advanced encryption of the NSA, she takes on the most skillful killers and beats the living daylight out of them and she does all of that with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. A little bit less of the good stuff and a little bit more humanity might have been better.
It seems to be the bane of sequel writers to feel forced to expand the plot continuously. This is true here as well. It is not just organized crime, it is the NSA, software giants and corrupt politicians high up in the hierarchy. Salander has to save the world, no more, no less.
I also missed some of the erotic touch of the former Salander. The tension laden relationship between Salander and Blomkvist was part of the intriguing attraction of the story. Salander and Blomkvist do not meet in person during the whole story. Only at the very end, they have a personal encounter. Unfortunately Lagercrantz seems to be a little bit of a prude.
As far as the plot is concerned, it is has a lot of sidelines, but it is not too complex. An IT genius and AI specialist gets killed and his autistic son is the only witness. Blomkvist picks up the story and very soon it becomes clear that organized crime and the NSA are deeply involved. He would not get anywhere with his investigation and probably not survive the turmoil, he created, if Salander would not have helped him.
It is not a Stieg Larrson, but it is an enjoyable read after all.

Good story, awfully read!
I am both reading and hearing the book by whispersync, as I love both the story and how it is written. David Lagercrantz really did a good job, although I admit I am not finished yet. But I want to return the audible version because I don´t like Saul Reichlins reading at all. I find it aggravating. His voice is nice enough, but he puts far too much of his own interpretation into his words, trying to give different characters their own personal voices and the worst: accents. This is very disturbing and annoying. For example it is absolutely unnessecary to let two Russians speak with heavy accents, when they speak Russian with one another, even if the language of the book is English. And then he forgets to give up the Russian accent when the direct speech ends. And why does Chief Inspector Bublansky have to speak with a South East European Jewish accent? Because of the name Bublansky? And the American IT nerd Needham speaks like Hagrid from Harry Potter, which doesn´t sound right, either. Creating those accents makes Mr. Reichlin speak even more slowly which makes the characters, goodies and baddies, sound dumb, which is not the case at all. The story itself is so good, it does´t need any adornments from the person reading aloud.

Fan Fiction, stopped at chapter 5
