    Description

So many Highlanders! You're sure to fall for one of them yourself!

Soncerae is a young Muir Witch who is compelled to save the souls of some Scottish warriors who haunt Culloden's battlefield. She tempts them with the revenge they seek but hopes to convince them that love - and life - would be so much better.

She's young, yes, but already in love. Unfortunately, the Highlander who has won her heart is one of the ghosts she is determined to send away from Culloden...for good.

The Gathering is a short introduction to the series. Lachlan's story is book two.

    Wonderful prequel!

This is a great prequel for what sounds like a super series! The narration is perfect and makes you feel immersed in the story. The characters, all ghosts, are interesting and develop over the course of the story. I'm excited to listen to the rest of the series when it comes out!

    Need More!

An interesting intro into The Ghosts of Culloden Moor. I found the premise of the story to be really interesting and look forward to hearing more about each highlander as they go on their "quests". Mr. McDermott's narration was perfect for this, I've listened to him a couple of times and love that brogue he has. Why aren't there more natural Scots or Irish like McDermott narrating audiobooks?

The Muir witch gathers the Ghosts of Culloden

Short, sweet introduction to Soncerae and the ghosts. Culloden Moor was the bloody battlefield where the army of the pretender, Bonnie Prince Charlie, was overwhelmed and 1,600 men slaughtered on 16 April 1745, a cold wet, foggy day. The Jacobite army was tired, underfed, exposed in a boggy field and outnumbered by the British forces. Since then, 79 souls haunted the battlefield to the present time, only rousing occasionally. In the summer of 1999, a babe is brought to visit Culloden Moor. Her presence rouses all the 79 and they become her adoring host as she matures to a powerful witch. Each solstice Soncerae visits. Finally, Soncarae when aged 16 gathers the 79 and offers them a bargain.

A series starter so really an overview, but details lacking. The narrator, Lachlan, says the 79 were strangers, standing apart from other ghosts, but perhaps drawn together by their desire for revenge. Or "perhaps there is something about a younger man's heart that can be stilled neither by bullet nor bayonet." My problem - what was the reason the ghosts wanted revenge? Why did they each want to beat on Bonnie Prince Charlie?

The narration by Andrew McDermott is impeccable as ever. His Scottish accent is perfect and the cadence great.

    A well-written story from a good author

The Gathering (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #1), my first read from author L.L. Muir. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes the books she reads influence me. I don't restrict myself to a particular genre. I'm a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing. The perfect novel? A book that keeps me turning the page long after I should have called it a night. This was a well-written short read, only 50 minutes in length. I'll read more from this author, in this series, but what really got me going was narrator Andrew McDermott, I love his Irish brogue. This is my fourteenth listen from him. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. 🎧 Good quick listen 🎧

The Gathering is a short set-up story for a larger series. I’m a big fan of Scottish highland based stories and also paranormal stories. This story combines the two. I love the premise, but I heard a couple of continuity issues that I have to let go of.

Andrew McDermott does the narration for this series. I’m one of his biggest fans and I’m looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.
