Description

The year is 2046, and dinosaurs are real.

Time bubbles across the world, many as large as 100 square miles, turn like clockwork, revealing prehistoric landscapes from the Cretaceous Period.

They reveal the Flipside.

Now, 30 years after the first turn, the clockwork is breaking down, as one of the world's powers has decided to exploit the phenomenon for his own gain, possibly destroying everything then and now in the process.

Former head of security for Topside Command Trevon Cash must navigate his way through the chaos of the broken turns and take a team Flipside to try to figure out what is happening.

What Cash and the others don't know is all that waits for them is horror and nightmares - a destroyed base, packs of ravenous carnivores, pterosaurs bent on plucking every human from the ground to be eaten far above, and so much more.

Can Cash and his team stop what is happening?

Or will they end up stuck Flipside forever in a perpetual prehistoric nightmare?

Creative Time Travel story.

With a great performance by the Narrator this is a worthwhile read that is a good use of your Time.

Could not resist that !

The plot is interesting and the characters are well crafted.

The Narrator is a Pro and helps to bring the story to the listener through the magic of Audio.

Very interesting take on time travel and dinosaurs

Jake Bible has done it again. Wow!!! the Flipside is fun roller-coaster of a ride that does not let up until it has completed. The characters were genuine and the action was believable. Seems like it was a start to a new series, if so, I will be along for the ride. The AI Bots were well done and thought out. very cool addition to a story about dinosaurs.

What more can I say about Andrew B Wehrlen that I have not said before. He is an amazing narrator. Everything he does is done with the utmost care and professionalism. His voices are great and diverse. He is able to convey all the emotions the characters feel.

I requested a free review copy of this audiobook and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

JAKE BIBLE ROCKS!

I've listened to a couple other of Jake's books, Black Box Inc and Blood Ghast Blues, and absolutely loved em. I then listened to this one, and I enjoyed it just as much! Love his writing, love the dinosaurs, and loved the narration. This story was total Jake Bible, and totally awesome. Love the crazy worlds he creates. The Flipside rocks! Bravo!!

Don't feed the Tyrannosaurus Rex!

Welcome to the Flipside. Time bubbles have sprouted across the globe and they reveal prehistoric animals and landscape within. They slowly turn from current time to prehistoric on set intervals. One imaginative entrepreneur even converted one time bubble into a Jurassic Park-type safari ride. Enter Trevon Cash former head of security for Topside Command, the entity that secures the time bubbles. An incident, outside of Cash’s control, caused Cash to claim the title “former” as he bravely took one for the team. Cash’s sister Tressa is now head of security and their father Thompson is CEO. Something goes horribly wrong and the timer that once switched consistently between current and prehistoric goes haywire. Cash is chosen to lead a team into Flipside to find out what is going on. As the team searches for answers they encounter Pterosaurs, flying reptiles they call “wingers”, huge Tyrannosaurus Rex the apex predator of the time, and many other creatures bent on having them for lunch. We follow Cash and crew as they dive in to put things right while they dodge the local wildlife. Dino-Side Dynomite

I loved this story. It reaches out and grabs you like a famished velociraptor in the first five minutes and never lets go. It's exciting, gritty and funny when it needs to be. I was sad when the book ended and there still seemed to be more that could be told about these characters and their situation. I'm hoping there's a Flipside 2 coming soon.

I also loved Andrew Wehrlen's narration even if his voice was sometimes too low pitched to be heard over my car engine. I just turned up the volume and dealt with it. Good pacing and wonderful character work that pulled me into the Flipside and beyond the bubble.

I would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoyed Jurassic Park or Aliens.

Sci-Fi, Military Thriller, Time Travel.. and Dinos

I remember Jake Bible posting a rough sketch of what he thought the cover should look like (I tried to find it so I could share it with you) and it was basically a stick dino, a bubble, and a stick person.  The cover art on this is gorgeous and I'll tip my hat to whoever designed it.  It's a perfect depiction of Bible's world.

The Flipside tells the story of a world where dinosaurs are real and time travel is possible but only in certain "time bubbles".  One company owns the rights to them in the US and is using it for tourism to "the flipside".  Tragedy strikes and a team is left on the other side for a year.  When they were supposed to come back - we find out that things aren't what they seem.

I'm familiar with Bible's world building from his other books but this was really well thought out and beautifully written.  I felt like I understood each person, place, and thing along with why they were there. I like when I don't have to try hard to imagine the world that an author is trying to create.

The characters in this were also awesome.  They were all strong in their own way and each provided some comic relief when you least expected it. I won't go into describing or explaining any characters - just know that you are in for well developed and interesting ones.

Andrew B. Wehrlen did a fantastic job narrating this book (as he's done with other Bible titles) - he gave each character their own voice without overacting each part. I found that listening to this made it immensely more enjoyable than reading it myself would have (I don't have a lot of good voices for characters in my head).

Overall, I thought that The Flipside had it all.  Jurassic Park elements (and even a reference to the movie), a futuristic setting, a "far in the past" setting, strong characters, time travel, and oh yeah, dinos.  Definitely dinos. I requested a copy of this book from the narrator - it has not affected my review in any way.

Very messy

It's hard to put into words the feelings I have about this book. It's kind of a mess. The characters are rather flat, there are several roughly-interchangeable personalities involved and at least one character whose 'personality' is just saying the word 'dude' a lot.

The dinos are the worst I've ever seen in the genre, full stop. They are just... soulless machines programmed to kill humans at the expense of their own lives, en masse, constantly, for no reason. That's 90% of them; there is one dino that is just a giant dog, even though it's the first generation of its kind in captivity. So yeah, all animals are mindless human-hating death machines, or friendly dogs. Other kinds are briefly mentioned, but they play no part in the story.

The odd thing is that while all of the wild dinosaurs are mindless, automated killing machines, actual automated killing machines still play a part in the story. One particular nationality, I should mention, are pretty much labeled as 'the worst thing ever' and play the part of the mustache-twirling supervillains in the story, who use exclusively automated weapons. They seem a bit needless... but then, that describes a lot of the bloated plot. This book uses the "characters tell other characters the plot points at play, what actions are about to happen, and then those actions happen" type of plotting, which I do not care for. It gets old fast, especially with all the jargon and the silly names plastered onto things.

Also the story's method of raising the stakes is to, basically, tell the audience that the stakes have been raised. 'Dinosaurs are coming for the base! Hundreds of them! All of them twice the size of a T Rex for some reason and also super-intelligent and agile! Also even though they're all super duper smart, they'll all just run straight into a machine gun nest over the corpses of their own kind in a suicidal frenzy for hours!' It gets so absurd, it kills all tension. And after the first third or so, there is no tension; the stakes just keep getting artificially raised and the characters just blandly explain the off-screen plot to the audience and it's all this constant stream of dull noise. Characters explaining the characteristics of a few 'animals' make them out to be one thing, but then when or if they show up they just do the same thing every other mindless automaton creature in the setting does. Stuff is happening, but it's impossible to care.

Overall, probably the worst dinosaur novel I've ever read on this service. I wouldn't bother; there were many times I just wanted to quit.

The Flipside

Enjoyed the story. I like the intensity the dinosaurs added to the story. The Russian combots are truly scary machines. I liked the narrator's performance. I received this audio book for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.
