    Description

In the second book in The Hundredth Queen Series, Emily R. King once again follows a young warrior queen's rise to meet her destiny in a richly imagined world of sorcery and forbidden powers.

Though the tyrant rajah she was forced to marry is dead, Kalinda's troubles are far from over. A warlord has invaded the imperial city, and now she's in exile. But she isn't alone. Kalinda has the allegiance of Captain Deven Naik, her guard and beloved, imprisoned for treason and stripped of command. With the empire at war, their best hope is to find Prince Ashwin, the rajah's son, who has promised Deven's freedom on one condition: that Kalinda will fight and defeat three formidable opponents.

But as Kalinda's tournament strengths are once again challenged, so too is her relationship with Deven. While Deven fears her powers, Ashwin reveres them - as well as the courageous woman who wields them. Kalinda comes to regard Ashwin as the only man who can repair a warring world and finds herself torn between her allegiance to Deven and a newly found respect for the young prince.

With both the responsibility to protect her people and the fate of those she loves weighing heavily upon her, Kalinda is forced again to compete. She must test the limits of her fire powers and her hard-won wisdom. But will that be enough to unite the empire without sacrificing all she holds dear?

    Fire queen audio issues

I like the story behind this series but had a problem with this recording as it introduced a male voice for the male character but the female reader and male reader did not pronounce half of the names of persons and places the same way.

Good book, annoying glitches in performance

While this book is an interesting continuation of Emily Kong’s story strayed in The Hundredth Queen, I had a REALLY hard time getting past the huge differences in pronunciation between the female protagonist and the male one. Given that the male is primarily reading the part of Deven, who is in love with Kalinda, I found it incredibly irritating that he pronounced EVERYTHING differently than she did - including her NAME (!!!), the country they come from, and many other major character’s names!! This Audible book should never have passed editorial review with that error. It was so irritating that I yelled the corrected pronunciation at the radio every time he read. I doubt I’ll buy the 3rd Audible book given this sloppy and irritating editing.

    Meh

The story is fine but the fact that the two narrators continually pronounce the names of characters differently is beyond distracting. I'm writing this before I can even finish the book because I'm not sure that I will.

    Voice Actor issues

It was really distracting to hear Scott pronouncing Kalinda’s nickname differently than Lauren. Otherwise it was enjoyable overall.

    Inconsistent narration

The book itself is nice, though I liked it less than the first.
However- the narration was a real problem... Lauren Ezzo is great, but Scott Merriman kind of ruins it.
I mean- at least be consistent with the pronunciation of the names of major characters! First I blamed the producers for not coordinating between him and ms Ezzo, but then I noticed that he changes the pronunciation of some names even in the same chapter of his own narration.
Made me loose concentration every time he said Kali’s name... I really hope they fix it by the next book....

The story became a little far fetched.

the characters believed everything people they never met told them. it was so unreasonable. this made no since.

    Love this series!

Great story with complex characters. I️ love that this story is not predictable.
My only complaint is that the two narrators did not pronounce names the same way. It was confusing at times. The Narrators’ voices were great but pronounced the lead character’s name differently.
This story has romance and plenty of action. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

    Horrible male narrator pronunciation!

I almost didn’t finish listening to this audiobook due to the male narrators pronunciation of many words such as the female protagonists name, places, other people’s names, etc. He would change the pronunciation slightly for each time he said the words, too, and it would never match the female narrators pronunciations. 4/5 stars for the story but I will not be listening to the next book via audible because I cannot stand the pronunciation disparity.

    Captivating

A story so enchanting that I got annoyed when I had to press pause. Phenomenal narration, and characters so rich that I found myself speaking out loud when things happened, as if I was there in person.

    Two Narrator Bust

If you are going to have two narrators for a book, they should get on board about how they will pronounce names beforehand. It was odd and distracting that they didn't speak the names the same way.
