I loved this book, disturbing as it was a lot of the time!! The timespans changing between chapters was so well done I found. Great characters and also very well read !!
I will be looking at other books by this author for sure!

Not really what I was expecting from the description but it was one of those you cannot put down until the end. Full of twists and turns. Highly recommend the read. Great performances and well written.

    Absolutely brilliant

English is my second langage, but I got very fascinated by this story, which, as incredible as it is, nonetheless remains in fact extremely plausible, to the point that it could be based on real facts, and may be it was somewhere. I highly recommend this work which is not only radiating tension, but also very sensitivity treated and with a great deal of tact, despite tackling delicate subjects such as child abuse and adolescent homosexuality. Awe-inspiring writing and reading down the line, I highly recommend!

    Tantalising but truly very sad

It was a gripping book but a few times I had to fast forward because I did not want to feel the misery of the caracters. I also expected another twist at the end but also feared it as it might have been sinister.

    "The weakness of men."

Firstly, the narration: three people are listed here, reading the chapters appropriate to their character as the point of view switches between Henry, nicely performed by Dominic Thorburn, Libby and Lucy read by Tamaryn Payne and Bea Holland. Unfortunately, the credits do not say who read which part. Not that it matters as both were good, clear and maintained an interest and were so similar in sound that I didn't realise that there was more than one female narrator. There were a couple of pronunciations but little of consequence and the male/ female voice variation helped provide a textural interest.

The actual story was, however, disappointing. It started well with the mystery of three dead, one woman and two men, found on the kitchen floor of a house in Cheney Walk, a very select and expensive street by the Thames in London. Two of the bodies were identified as husband and wife, the owners, but the third victim was unknown. It was an apparent suicide pact. But there was also the complication of a live baby on the floor above, well fed and cared for, secure in a cot. Although believed to be the dead couple's child, who had cared for her in the time between the deaths and the discovery of the bodies? Twenty four years later, that same baby who had been given for adoption, was surprised when she inherited the house and set out to find out more about her birth parents. This story, which moves back and forth in time and between protagonists, reveals all. Not so much a who-dun-it? mystery but a who are you?

Interesting enough to carry this reader to the end, just, by virtue of the good narration, but it dragged especially towards the end and despite the final resolutions, did not have the anticipated feel good factor but instead just rather shabby sad and unlikely.
So five stars for the readers and, being generous, three for the convoluted tale itself.

    Very disappointing

I will start on a positive note and say that the narration for this book was pretty good, and I like chapters giving the perspective of different characters. I was really into this book, waiting for the dramatic twist at the end, but it never came. To make matters worse the ending was, in my opinion, totally unbelievable. When reading fiction you always have to allow for some literary licence, but in this case its like the author ran out of steam and just threw an ending together. I feel like I wasted a good weekend on this book.

    Could see the twists coming

Overall an engaging and very enjoyable audio book. Very well read by the actors, and I think the experience was better on audio because of their talent. I was looking forward to some great twists, as promised in other reviews, but I could see them coming from a mile off.
This was my first but I will be definitely reading/ listening to more of this author.

    Disappointing

Audible has been recommending that I listen to this book for ages, and I’m really disappointed. Plot was flimsy and unlikely and I found it difficult to warm to any of the characters. Nevertheless I did finish this book, and I think it could make a nice ‘beach’ listen.

Slow start but damn does it pick up!!!

This book is seriously creepy, not in the bloody murder or ghosts and hauntings every where kinda way. But in the, don't let strangers into your house and let them take over your family and your life kind of way. JESUS!!!

The writing was amazing. The way the audiobook was produced was amazing. I loved that we had three different narrators for the three POV's. It made it super easy to tell them apart, to just have a different voice to all the characters. I LOVED it.

The three main characters. In the beginning I was super confused but damn, all these twists, turns, and revelations. Get over the slow part of the book and this book picks up and throws some crazy shit at you. I LOVED IT.

    Good book

This was a good book to listen, good story and storytelling from three persons. Only thing i didnt like was the David person and his influence on the family on everybody, the illness in his behaviour and how one person can destroy childrenhood ,life of other people..
    Overall good book.

La vie est un long fleuve tranquille

Three points of view, flowing beautifully together, great audio narration. But I never really connected with the characters. What remains is appreciation and a slight disappointment. The author has outdone herself in extracting the last drop from a limiting story.

    Great story telling

Clearly one of the best stories I recently read (heard). Every one of the three perspectives was exciting and the characters interesting. Especially in the second half it made me want to grab the narrators by their shoulders after each section and shout: "What? So what happened then, won't you tell me now?"
    Really had a good time!

    Boring

The novel adopts the style of telling the story through that if various characters, a kind of perspective switching but in third person. But it does this without filling the characters and without illuminating their backgrounds sufficiently so that the narration feels bland. The worst novel I have heard as an audio book, and I've heard quite a few recently.

Compelling story that lost its edge in the finale

All in all this was a very compelling story, lots of twists and shocking events, unforeseen revelations. The strongest aspect surely was the character creation. The author created very compelling characters that you couldn't help but root for, although in the end it was difficult to be okay with all their decisions and views on life. The story had a nice pace to it, left the reader curious at all times. Only thing I couldn't really enjoy was the ending. It felt rushed and all the complications and potential conflicts seemed solved within an instant, although there was a lot of time spent to build them up. It's weird to say but to me, the ending was too happy? Don't get me wrong, all of the characters deserve to be happy and find peace, just, I would have thought some of them would need more time to be fine again?

    fabulous!

At the begining I had a little trouble connecting the story and all the characters, but it came up to be a great book. I loved it. It is very original, different. The speakers are amazing! Now I want to hear/read more about Lisa Jewels.
