    Description

International sex researcher, neuroscientist, and columnist Debra Soh debunks popular gender myths in this fascinating, research-based, scientific examination of the many facets of gender identity.

Is our gender something we’re born with, or are we conditioned by society? In The End of Gender, neuroscientist and sexologist Dr. Debra Soh uses a research-based approach to address this hot-button topic, unmasking popular misconceptions about the nature vs. nurture debate and exploring what it means to be a woman or a man in today’s society.

Both scientific and objective and drawing on original research and carefully conducted interviews, Soh tackles a wide range of issues, such as gender-neutral parenting, gender dysphoric children, and the neuroscience of being transgender. She debates today’s accepted notion that gender is a social construct and a spectrum and challenges the idea that there is no difference between how male and female brains operate.

The End of Gender is a conversation-starting work that will challenge what you thought you knew about gender, identity, and everything in between. Timely, informative, and provocative, it will arm you with the facts you need to come to your own conclusions about gender identity and its place in the world today.

    Excellent and informative!

I am a transwoman who is having issues with the trans community ideology lately. I was starting to feel that things were getting a little too crazy. After reading this book, I know why I was feeling that way...
    Thank you Dr Soh!

More balanced than I had anticipated

At first glance, I thought this book might be a right-wing tirade about gender norms and the transgender community. However, this book presented a balanced and data-driven view of issues relating to gender identity and sexuality. I was pleasantly surprised by the author’s acknowledgement of the realities faced by the transgender community while also combating common misinformation often found among trans activists, especially as it relates to gender dysmorphia in children.
The author also does a pretty good job narrating, much better than many other authors who narrate their own books.

One of the most important books of our time

Being a liberal and a parent with an appreciation for quantentative evidence right now is scary. In the face of the ongoing political movement to encourage children to transition at a young age or learn that gender disphoria is societally more advantageous than behaving typically as your sex (both typical male and female behaviors being stigmatized), most people are cowed into silence on this issue.

Not Debra Soh. With a highly clinical and compassionate approach, she speaks volumes of truth she will sadly be attacked for by activists who won't read her book or the studies she sites.

Excellent book for understanding who we are.

Having heard Dr. Soh speak, I was eager to read this. What a refreshingly honest scientific description of a subject made so confusing by leftist activists in academia. Also extremely useful for understanding ourselves as humans. I hope society learns the lessons she’s teaching here.

Too much politics, too little science.

Much of the book revolves around the absurdities that are proclaimed by ‘some’ trans activists, and the consequences of that. I had much rather read a lot more about the actual academic research available and what that meant. Now that part is sort of glossed over at the beginning of each chapters, before heading back to the discussions meant Ionel before, fueled by the author’s own experience from her career as both scientist and journalist.
I feel like the book has wrong title. Not enough science and too much bickering.

    Useful at points, disappointing overall

Some useful definitions and data points, but generally disappointing. The style was too informal for the topic, and the studies were not sufficiently described to let the reader to form an independent opinion.

    Must read

I’ve been confused by the trans movement, not understanding the issues and motivations, and afraid to ask.

The book give excellent explanations of the terms and issues, with balanced and nuanced perspective.

I’m overwhelmingly impressed by the courage, and knowledge of the author. I wish this book were required reading.

    Absolute must read!

Brilliant, brave, honest, truth seeking. Amazing book which I wish was read by everyone with whom I ever discuss any gender / social justice warriors topics. Greatly narrated by the author.

    Enlightening

A very good audiobook which accurately explains gender, gender ideology and the unfortunate stronghold of academia on much of the conversation. It's quite interesting and enlightening, even though I knew much of the content, having followed much of the controversy and several podcasts of the author. She could have read the script with a bit more prosody, but the content is impeccable.

    Must read for

This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to have an informed and scientifically backed opinion about gender and sex. Contrary to what some might believe, this book is essential in supporting the rights of women, homosexuals and transgender people. This topic is too important then to leave the field to radical activists. the misinformation spread bye said radical activists is not only hurting the lgbtq community but also the science community.
