Jean Harris, the daughter of the Earl of Levinshire, is left stranded after an accident on a desolate country road. As panic turns into fear that no one will find her, she is rescued by a gruff man, the Duke of Burnshire, a friend of her father's. As they arrive at Jean's home, the duke impulsively asks her to be governess to his children.
