Description
Arriving on the windswept Ile de Ré, Tabby Dewhurst is unable to even afford a room for the night. Overhearing a villager repeating the access code to her front door, she lets herself into the house, and so she enters the strange, hidden world of Emmie, whose sudden offer of friendship is at odds with her obsession with privacy.
Tabby begins to form suspicions about Emmie, suspicions that lead her to a scandal with shattering consequences.

Worth a credit
Great book I loved some of the characters hated others for their stupid behavior. Disagreed with the characters that seemed to make pathetic and anti strong woman choices which, frustrated me to no end. Other than that it was a good mystery with twists and turns and remained unpredictable to the end.

Story was interesting but ending was meh
The plot was interesting and unique but the ending left a lot to be desired.
Also, why did Emily’s voice change when her part was being told by Tabby? That was not necessary and a bit confusing.

The ending felt very rushed.
The ending felt very rushed. I was disappointed the audio book did not have the updated epilogue that physical book apparently has.

The Disappearance of an Ending
The story immediately had my attention. The only time my attention wandered was when I couldn't stop listening at night and fell asleep! There were so many unexpected twists and turns that I kept expecting more and more. That was why the ending was so extremely disappointing. It was as if the author had just had enough of the story and wanted to call it done. Maybe she had already begun another book and decided to move on. I had begun to suspect that the Emily at the end was actually not the real one and the fake one was actually the real one. Now THAT would have been the kind of ending needed to this story! It was a missed opportunity to create a really great ending!
