When Orla Penrose discovers a banker’s box labeled “LATER” inside the fading Briar Annex records building, she expects forgotten paperwork.
Instead, she finds documents that should not belong together—and evidence that something inside the system has been quietly altered without ever being removed.
As officials push to process and relocate the box, Orla uncovers a pattern hidden in ordinary records: subtle changes, missing attachments, shifted alignments, and procedural decisions designed not to erase information, but to misplace meaning itself.
Quietly tense and deeply atmospheric, The Box Marked Later is a literary procedural mystery about systems, absence, and the dangerous comfort of things left unresolved.
