Description

Some things just wont stay buried.

The number one Sunday Times best-selling author returns with the much anticipated new Logan McRae thriller.

What drives someone to murder?

Logan McRae's personal history is hardly squeaky clean, but now that he works for Professional Standards he's policing his fellow officers.

When Detective Inspector Bell turns up dead in the drivers seat of a crashed car, it's a shock to everyone. Because Bell died two years ago. They buried him. Or they thought they did.

As an investigation is launched into Bell's stabbing, Logan digs into his past. Where has he been all this time? Why did he disappear? And what's so important that he felt the need to come back from the dead?

But the deeper Logan digs, the more bones he uncovers - and there are people out there who will kill to keep those skeletons buried. If Logan can't stop them, DI Bell won't be the only one to die.

Complaining gets to be a bit much

Plots are engrossing but everyone bitches all the time. Supposed to be funny but becomes quite tiresome.

Another great Logan McRae book

It’s hard not to like this series of books, the flawed characters are easy to identity with, in fact it’s quite possible you know someone at work just like one of them. It goes deeper than just the characters and storyline though, the subject matter is at times hard going and tackles a number of emotive issues during the course of the book. The plot is complex and you’re always left wanting more, whenever you press pause.

All in all a great read!

What happened?!

I love this series and was quite excited when The Blood Road was released. However, it fell flat for me. Even the narration was off and Steve Worsley had been flawless up to this point. It sounded as though he had forgotten the character voices. Logan didn't sound like himself and Robertta, wasn't even close. I found that a distraction trying to figure out who was speaking.
No spoilers here. When "you know who" was brought in I found that hard to swallow and was never given much of a reason for the choices he made.
Reny is under used and in this one his personality was not in line with past stories. Roberta is such a great character and again her role seemed limited and the conversations between she and Logan were repetitive. Banter only goes so far.
I will give another installment in the series a go and hope it gets back on track.

Argh! Finished and I have to wait for the next one

Love this series! Perfect blend of mystery, comedy, and great characters. The narrator couldn't be better - sounds like it was written for him. Can't wait for the next in the series!

Oh do get on!

This darkly funny and at times gruesome detective novel is peopled with flawed police and pathetic victims of man’s beastly behaviour. Beautifully read with strong characterisations. My ONLY caveat is pace. Towards the end I was shouting at my phone for some action as dithering in a novel is tiresome. I’d say five chapters too long. Editor please note. Most enjoyable. Have just bought two more!

Chilling story

Steve Worsley performed superbly as usual. The story lagged a little bit in places but not enough to spoil it.

A tedious listen.

As I was listening to this, I remembered why I stopped reading MacBride's books. They're very slow. It takes forever for the action to progress. And it's very serious subject matter interspersed with a lot of silliness. Too much "filler". The narrator was more than adequate given the material. My last MacBride.

Wow, I needed that

I LOVE Logan McRae and every single character in his world, right down to Kthulu the cat. There’s something about the way MacBride puts words together that makes me feel connected to his characters in a way that few authors can. This time out we meet a sadder, harder Logan, still talking to himself and Kthulu, tentatively exploring a new relationship, working in Standards and Practices and dealing with the most evil denizens Aberdeen has to offer. Steve Worsely is outstanding as always. Hope it never ends!
