Table Number 7 is a delightfully witty and satirical romp through the chaotic love life of Shafiqur Rahman Romeo, a man hopelessly entangled in his own romantic farce. Set against the vibrant backdrop of early-2000s Dhaka, this comedy novella blends cultural specificity with universal humour, crafting a story that’s as sharp as it is heartfelt.
When one lover turns up before schedule, Romeo’s carefully timed escapades spin out of control, unleashing a chain of comic confrontations that end up in a courtroom circus. Along the way, a motley cast of ex-lovers plots sweet revenge, and Dhaka itself becomes a stage for love, lies, and laughter.
Zakir Hossain’s sparkling prose, rich with local flavour and universal insight, paints a colourful world of flawed yet endearing characters navigating the absurdities of modern relationships.
With echoes of classic screwball comedies and a fresh Bengali twist, Table Number 7 is an entertaining journey full of misunderstandings, witty banter, and surprising moments of tenderness. It’s a comedy that will stay with you long after the last page, reminding listeners that sometimes, life’s messiest moments make the best stories.
