    Description

Adventure. It's what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I'm excited. Here, I'm important. Here, I'm special.

I find out just how special when I meet Death. He's been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he's just as spoiled and awful as you'd think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He's selfish. He's impossible.

He's also utterly gorgeous. Magnetic. Lonely. And strangely protective of me.

Thanks to a magic bond, I now serve him as his anchor to the mortal realm. It means that I'm his conscience, his guide...and the target for any assassin or glory-seeker. After a few days of this, I'd rather go home than continue on this adventure.

As the world falls down around us and we're hunted simply for existing, I find myself wondering what it'd be like to serve the lonely god of death...in all ways. To kiss him. To touch him. To bed him.

Except...I'm supposed to be finding a way home, not trying to kiss Rhagos. No matter how tempting he is. No matter how much he stares at my lips. No matter how much I want it.

    Contains mature themes.

    Dixon at her best

First, ignore the cover. I promise you the story is worth it. Dixon has a thing for these covers, and honestly, I blew her work off because of them for so long. Now, I've binged all her work and this series is the best of her work.

I expected to have a similar adventure story as in book 1 - going out and killing the other aspects, waging war, etc... But nope. Dixon is pretty creative, and we have a completely different story here. In some ways, it was a lot tamer - less battle, etc... but I think the connection between Rhagos and Max was so well done. They are different people and therefore their adventure would reflect that.

I loved Rhagos - maybe a smidge more than Aron. Regardless, this was a 5 star book and I cannot wait for the next one.

Love this series - Worth the credits!

    This series is Dixon’s best!
Real personalities with real reactions. Complex story with many plot points. Realistic emotional/relationship development. Overall, believable characters that make the story so much more enjoyable than most books out there.
I’m excited for the next books in this series!
    Great narration, too.

Second adventure is even better than the first!

Basically Kylo Ren is the lonely god of death. He realizes that he could have a lovely anchor to spend eternity with just like the god of war now does. He bargains to get another chance at the ascendence but things don’t go quite the way he expected - he falls in love while doing nothing but deceive the object of his affections. And breaking all kinds of rules along the way.

I actually wanted to reread the first 8 hours after we find out “which” Death Kylo is.

There is an epic adventure with lots of misdirection and flirting and misunderstandings and new things learned etc.

I loved this book more than #1 because it was heads and tales more romantic (there’s great sex and smut but I felt way more emotion from Kylo than from Aaron). Ruby did a great job showing his feelings in small ways throughout this epic tale!

Best of all... Kylo finally gets what he deserves..

    HIS HEA!!!!

Look past the cover, it’s an amazing story!

Just like Bound to the Battle God, this has everything-well developed characters, a thought out story (not super predictable like you’d expect), nothing is rushed yet I didn’t get bored at any point. I truly love this storyline and can’t wait for the next book.

Unique mythos and sweet romantic story

I tend to like most of Ruby Dixon’s tales but this series might be my favorite. It’s a really unique sort of fantasy premise that I am eager to see play out in other books. This one was a little tougher at the start than the first book but once you understand why - it keeps you hooked. Max is such a sweet optimist and Raagos such a dark and brooding hero. Also the side characters in this book are super intriguing. I’m hopeful that Kasaam‘s story is next.

    2nd time's a charm! UPDATED!!

TLDR; This book is best on a 2nd/3rd listen (read). The female main character may not be the expectation/stereotype gamer, but I think that is the the brilliance of her. I know people just like her (all rainbows and butterflies with no common sense). Yes, the dialogue can be confusing but it all fits and even more so with a 2nd listen. It is just delightful and very clever. Hats off to Ruby!

    Original review:
Love this book as much as I loved the first one. I can't wait for the next. I was afraid it wasn't as good at first, but once the big twist was revealed I was completely engrossed in the story. It will require a 2nd listen to pick up all the easter eggs that were missed on the first listen leading up to the reveal. A 2nd listen will bring new light to the gods' actions

The narration was good. Jillian Macie was the narrator in the Dark Planet series so I knew what to expect. I hope for the next book (Kassam) there is a male narrator since it seems he will be the main point of view.

These books are so good and Ruby Dixon pours so much love into them. I laugh, love, and cry throughout and it is just so nice to be so invested in these stories. Would absolutely recommend them to anyone.

    Annoying Heroine

I LOVED the first book and I love Ruby Dixon but this one was a miss for me. The heroine is so annoying and dumb it’s ridiculous. You can have a nice/good heroine that isn’t a complete idiot or naive but still have common sense. There were some good parts and I really enjoy the world but I pretty much just finished it bc I am hoping the next story can go back to having a strong and likable female.

    couldn't get behind the MC

I really need hated the MC. The story was good but man did I dislike the girl. Too dumb to live. Just ...god was she a let down. I thought she would be like a cool gamer chick ready to be chosen one but she turn out to be human.
