    Description

Forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan returns in a chilling original short story from number-one New York Times best-selling author Kathy Reichs. In the prequel to Reichs’s upcoming thriller Bones Never Lie, Tempe takes a much-needed vacation - but murder follows wherever she goes.

Although a trip to Florida is supposed to be about rest and relaxation, there’s no such thing as a day off for Dr. Temperance Brennan. She has come to visit her friend, a dedicated ornithologist who’s researching the threat that intrusive Burmese pythons pose to indigenous bird species in the Everglades. While sorting through the stomach of an eighteen-foot specimen, they make a disturbing discovery: bones that are unmistakably human. And when Tempe spots the telltale signs of murder by a very different kind of predator, she’s drawn into a case with its roots in the darkest depths of the swamp.

    Florida Agrees With Tempe

Tempe Brennan heads to the Everglades and is drafted into service when human bones are found inside a dead python. This is a short novella; less than three hours and it keeps the story moving quickly; unlike many of the Bones series works which become mired in detail and make interest difficult to maintain. The events which lead up to the climatic scene strain credulity to some extent but so do a great many selections in this genre. Given the minimal cost of this audiobook it's an excellent choice.

    loved it!

If you could sum up Swamp Bones: A Novella in three words, what would they be?

    suspenseful well written

What other book might you compare Swamp Bones: A Novella to and why?

it is hard to compare another book to this story but maybe Reichs "Break No Bones" is close.

    Any additional comments?

this was a great read. I really liked the humor in this one..

    I now see the charm

I didn't understand the point of novellas before, now I do! This is a perfect bite sized Reichs adventure. The writing is sharp, the story is tight, and overall it's better than the last couple of full lenght books.

She even made me care about pythons in this one! Also the limited lenght limited to romantic drama that usually litters the other books, that was a plus for me, more focus on the case!

The one thing is of course Tempe's annoying quality of getting herself ito mortal danger, through her own faults, which is annoying. Could there at least be one story where she doesn't arrogantly decide to do things her way and then have to live to regret it? She could still end up in danger, I could just do without her arrogance.

Anyway, will definitely check out more of these novellas.

Enjoyed the Story but Narrator not my Favorite

I enjoyed the short audible and really, that was all the time the story required in order to be told. The narrator (Borowitz) was NOT my favorite. She seemed to portray all the men as having dumb swamp-men stereotype voices. duh-uh. I found this odd and annoying. For me, it lessened my interest in the story/ mystery, which in essence takes away from the author's actual ability. This is my first listen by this narrator so maybe it was just the title of the book which was the reason she did it and another selection will not yield the same 'results'.

Hard to get past bad narrator

I’m usually a fan of Kathy Reichs, and I’ve read all of her books. This one is definitely not as good as her others, with a boring plot, bad stereotypes and just overall less interesting story. I truly didn’t like the narrator at all in this audio version. Maybe it’s my own preconceived notion of what Temperance should sound like but truly the narrator really overplays each character (especially horrible accents). I can’t even finish this audiobook because I just can’t get past the bad narration. Thank goodness this was a free book because I’d be a lot more upset if I’d paid for it.

Great read & learn in the bargain

You almost cant go wrong with a Kathy Reich book. They are a bit formulaic, but always an interesting, exciting strong female lead. Plus the setting ALWAYS rivetingly teaches you something technical. Loved this short story & Reich's books never disappoint.
