Description

The epic tale of everyone's favorite dark elf, Drizzt Do'Urden, reaches new heights!

Drizzt Do'Urden struggles with his own inner voices, voices that call him back to the pitiless depths of the Underdark. But louder still are the voices of his newfound friends, and the dream that drives Bruenor Battlehammer on to reclaim Mithral Hall. Time and again they're told to turn back, that some dreams can never be fulfilled, but on they fight - together.

This is the second series that I've gotten into and I'm not disappointed. The adventures is fantastic. A great listen. Well written and well performed.

Forever Friends

Where does Streams of Silver rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great listen.

What does Victor Bevine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

V.B. always does a great job bringing the books to life.

Any additional comments?

Always a good listen. Love every story so far. Looking forward to listening to the rest.
Once again, check Drizzt out if you have not already.

Narrator's Pronunciations are Bizarre

I'm listening to this series again after reading the books years ago. Overall, the narrator is wonderful, but there is one thing that makes the vein in my temple throb every time I hear it.

The pronunciation of ravine is a soft A with the I pronounced as a hard E (rəˈvēn). Nowhere, in no dictionary, is it pronounced ravin with a soft I (or like one of the Foresaken in Wheel of Time, for those familiar). This isn't an uncommon English word, so how did it get past both the editors and producers, even if the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce it?!?

Once I get over that bucket of cold water to the face each time I hear it, I can get back into the narrative, but it always jolts me out of the story for a few minutes.

I love this story, but...

I love this story, but the narrator pronounces some words in such a way as to make me feel like I just heard nails on a chalkboard (lived for instance). Fortunately these words are few and far between. He does alter his voice slightly for different characters so that is good.

Streams of Gold

As always the narrator did an excellent job. I enjoyed this book more than I enjoyed the Crystal Shard. Unlike the first book the tempo in Streams of Silver is more balanced with more interesting dialogue between characters and the battles more descriptive and in a way more flexible. If Salvatore wrote this book immediately after the Crystal Shard he improved dramatically in his writing style.

Fun and interesting follow up.

I like this story more than I liked "The Crystal Shard". Good interplay between the characters. Good questing and discovery. Good conflicts between the main powers and interests.

The performance is good and enjoyable.

Some characters are less interesting than others. Only a few characters seem to have real depth. Other characters seem a bit forced in their loyalties and emotions. Some choices seem out of character and there are foreseeable oversights that weaken the organic nature and believability of the story progression. Takes a bit from the immersion factor.

Overall an enjoyable book, despite flaws. Definitely some gems to enjoy and capture the imagination.

Very addictive

The storytelling is very different in R. A. Salvatore's book than the fantasy books I am used to. After I adjusted to the almost omnipresent narration I found a great deal of satisfaction in the story. The character's are surprisingly relatable and the world full of danger. I would highly recommend this and the entire Icewind Dale series.

Fun, great narration

It's a fun quick read, with great narration. I read the book years ago, and while I didn't hate it it wasn't my favorite RA Salvatore novels. However, whether it is just my personal taste that has changed, or if the performance gave it a bit extra, after listening to it here I have come to greatly enjoy this story. While none of the Drizzt books will make literary history for Shakespearean plots, or groundbreaking literary devices, they will go down as some of the more fun fantasy novels. Truly a D&D session taken novel form, they are interesting and will hold your interest for some pure escapism and enjoyment.

I highly recommend for fantasy fans, who don't take themselves all that seriously.

Still catching the mood, but out of ideas

The story of drizzt continues, but the story would be only mediocre if this actually was a DnD adventure for the game table.
It feels like a series of combat encounters, but narrative arc, character development and inner conflict feel artificial at best.
