In The Science of Storytelling, Will Storr applies dazzling psychological research and cutting-edge neuroscience to our myths and archetypes to show how we can tell better stories, revealing, among other things, how storytellers - and also our brains - create worlds by being attuned to moments of unexpected change.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

They say you shouldn't ask your mom whether your business is a good idea, because she loves you and will lie to you. This is technically true, but it misses the point. You shouldn't ask anyone if your business is a good idea. It's a bad question, and everyone will lie to you at least a little. As a matter of fact, it's not their responsibility to tell you the truth. It's your responsibility to find it, and it's worth doing right.

Lots of great tips and examples to learn from
I’ve been looking for a book that can teach this skill effectively. I found this to be very helpful. The author provides a useful framework and structure to follow in identifying and developing ones storytelling skills. This is then coupled with plenty of examples where storytelling was used effectively to address different scenarios. This would be one resource I would go back to time and again to reference.

It helped narrow down several ideas
Where does Stories for Work rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This audiobook is right now one of the top books I have been usually listening
Have you listened to any of Danielle Carter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The accent of Danielle Carter's is enjoyable and easy to understand, it does have that "link" between telling the "stories" with an emotional effect.
Any additional comments?
I recommend this book to who ever is trying to enhance there performance while speaking, giving presentations, trying to sell an idea with the usage of "storytelling", it does help to understand quickly how to find you own stories and several key points on how and when to use the different types of stories.
There are several books more in detail and background information of storytelling, I already spend several hours reading, but they are great for a more elaborate story. Usually in business we need to get to the point fast, but also grab the attention from people, this book does help keeping stories short and having that "magic" to get the emotional part that storytelling has as a common ground. So if you are new to the subject of storytelling and want to apply it for work or business topics, this book can help bring you up to speed, latter on if want to do more research, try some other books.

A must hear for English learners
Storytelling is about language, isn't it?
I started to hear this book on an English B2 level and I really have problems to find perfect books that match my level.
But this book is perfect. I only need to look up few English vocabularies. Eagerly I write each down into my litte book.
The special thing about "Stories for Work" is indeed, that it explains how to craft language.
Or do you know a better approach for learning English if you are based in an non English speaking country?
Thanks Gabrielle.
