Description

Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their successes over and over?

People like Martin Luther King, Jr.; Steve Jobs; and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why. Their natural ability to start with why enabled them to inspire those around them and to achieve remarkable things. In studying the leaders who've had the greatest influence in the world, Simon Sinek discovered that they all think, act, and communicate in the exact same way - and it's the complete opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with why.

Any organization can explain what it does; some can explain how they do it; but very few can clearly articulate why. Why is not money or profit - those are always results. Why does your organization exist? Why does it do the things it does? Why do customers really buy from one company or another? Why are people loyal to some leaders but not others? Starting with why works in big business and small business, in the nonprofit world and in politics. Those who start with why never manipulate, they inspire. And people follow them not because they have to; they follow because they want to. Drawing on a wide range of real-life stories, Sinek weaves together a clear vision of what it truly takes to lead and inspire. This book is for anyone who wants to inspire others or who wants to find someone to inspire them.

Commentaires

“Start with Why is one of the most useful and powerful books I have read in years. Simple and elegant, it shows us how leaders should lead. Highly recommended!” (William Ury, coauthor of Getting to Yes, cofounder of The Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School)

Simon parle beaucoup pour ne rien dire

'Start with why' est mauvais.
Achetez plutôt "from zero to one" a la place. Au moins les idées sont nouvelles et construites.

OK, but repetitive.

The idea is good. First why, then the rest.
Yet this can be said in one third of the time used.
The book's core message is interesting, but it suffers from repetition.

Good stories but few ideas

There are many good stories in this book and important takeaways. However they mostly revolve around the same basic idea. If you want to dive deep into this particular idea, this book is for you.

autre exemple Martin Luther King.

Many repetitions

So so so so many repetitions around just one idea that is really easy to understand once it is explained. Really disappointed, feel like I have learned nothing. Even if I can understand that some people find inspiring stories inspiring and motivate their willpower, reading/hearing the same one all over without any demonstrations or real proof that what the author saying is true, is really a waste of my time.

life changing

This is truly enlightening, I hope to be able to pass on, and live by, its amazing principle to always start with why. It might be daunting to start listening to this long audio, but it's worth it, weather you're an aspiring entreprenor or already into business or even if you feel something is missing to your business life.

It is very repetitive, but quite good

It has a good message but the author repeats the same things over and over many many times. This audiobook could be between 2 and 3 hours shorter.

Interesting, but too long

Illustrates great ideas and is very thought provoking . However, the book gets repetitive around two thirds in.

Great idea - too long

What did you like best about Start with Why? What did you like least?

I liked the concept of start with why but the book seems to be too long and dabbling into various examples which were not so interested. Also, narration was very plain and at times not really bringing out the key messages author wanted to convey.

I am fan of Simon for his insights but book was not up to my expectation

Wish I could count the word "Apple"

Great first few chapters where Simon made his point. It was not needed to continue with the same example which most are already familiar with. It became like a Barbie girl song remix. I truely struggle to finish the book.

Highly repetitive

If you’ve watched the ted talk you have 90% of the message contained in the book.
I don’t personally enjoy Simon’s narration. He is clear and easy to understand, but frequently over emphasises the point in a tone that resembles a gypsy selling moon stones to heal cancer. Beelieeeeve meeee they reaaaally work”.... Just a bit too much for me personally.
Other than that he has a good point and many would benefit from listening to this book.

The context is priceless but

This book is a must listen for all entrepreneurs and visionary WHY types, but it is hard to get the point first time you listen to each chapter!
I don't know why but this is the only book I became forced to listen every chapter twice a day; fresh listen on my commute to office and second time just after dinner.
Find your way of listening in depth and don't question your conscience this book is a tough one.

The book could be much much shorter

This book was a recommended reading at my company, so I had high expectations. The idea is nice and I do agree with the general concept, but there is too much water in the book, and the content is mostly about the ideas of others, the new input is mostly the "why" sentences.

I have also read many statements like "This company failed because they didn't know their why" and "This company was successful cause they had why but then they forgot and failed". I had a feeling this was just conveniently assumed by the author, there were many bold statements without proper arguments to support them. Of course, it's a book not a scientific paper, but still I was not convinced about many examples.

Overall, 2 stars because the idea is good, I would probably enjoy the TED talk or a short lecture. I also listened the book in Audible, perhaps reading it would be a different experience.

Not much content, extremely repeatedly. Better just watch his Ted Talk. Not recommended, there are better books out there!

Lots of "inspirational" blabla

The book has a valid point and illustrates it well. It is longer than necessary. I feel weird taking advice from someone, whose only job is to give advice. Of course he is going to say inspiring things. He doesn't have to test his beliefs against the real world. He makes money if he makes us feel good, and by seeming believable. It doesn't matter to his success whether his advice actually checks out, as long as we believe him long enough to buy his book.

How to discover your why?

Is definitely not the question which is answered by this book. However, Simon states a good case with plenty of examples of why the Why matters.

Good book but some topics are repetitive

Overall the book is good and the author has an inspiring ideology of great leadership.
Though, the stories are sometimes a bit repetitive. Its a bit too much of a sequence of stories about inspiring leaders.
The fact that its very American centric is Ok. Probably because the author is more familiar with leaders from US/North America
