Description

Cleaning starships is unglamorous work, even for a teenager. Sadie doesn't just hate her job, she hates pretty much everything about her life. When her sleazy boss leaves her on the closing shift alone so he can go party, she thinks it's the beginning of another in a long line of forgettable nights. Then she meets her final client of the evening, and finds that her otherwise boring job is about to become a fight for survival.

High stakes, high tension, contract cleaners!

This was a very well paced short story which built tension very well throughout.

Sadie is certainly thrown in at the deep end when she accepts a late night cleaning job on an alien spaceship. Sadie might hate her life and her dead-end cleaning job, but she's never had greater reason to. Sadie and her predicament are very easy to identify with and you're kept engaged and rooting for her through her ordeal.

Trigger warning, not for those who can't deal with body horror, and there's a fairly high ick factor from the get go, but it certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat.

First jobs can really suck

Living in the fringe is space just outside what lost would consider the civilized areas isn’t easy. It’s even harder when you are a
Young lady and your parents force you to get a job. here on the fringe they get away with paying far less than what the universe would deem minimum wage. So when your job is to clean the interior’s of spaceships, well first jobs can really suck. So when 1/2 an hour before closing a disgusting alien pulls up with a huge ship and a slime trail infested with bugs you just know today is going to suck....only it may be worse than that...really hilarious look at parts of space sci-fi that doesn’t ever get the mention it could.

Instantly Hooked

This story was thoroughly enjoyable and intentionally campy fun. The Main Character, Sadie, jumps right out at the reader/listener like a real 17 y/o kid hating her cleaning job...except that she cleans spaceships at the docks. It seems like it will be just another miserable evening, but then a mysterious last call ship comes in. What follows is definitely the cleaning job of Sadie's life. I won't spoil the end beyond warning you that to find out the end to this story requires you to read at least the first portion of Book 2, "The Farmer's Daughter."

I hate cliffhangers

all of this was a cliffhanger waiting for books two will be how I have to decide whether I like the series or not although some of it was predictable as most horror genres are it has a potential for being Addison series if they can come up with a much more unique approach in the next book.

You Missed A Spot

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

It was a great listen. The narrator is easy to listen to and does a great job. I wouldn't mind listening to more works narrated by Lillie.

The story was entertaining, and only had a couple flaws, which have also been pointed out in previous reviews.
1. It has a cliffhanger ending (That I hear is finished in book 2).
2. It's too short! Seriously...

The authors do such a great job quickly building the world and introducing the characters. I could listen to a much longer audiobook of this world, and look forward to listening to the other books in the series.

Sparkle Ship Shine...

Where we make your ship sparkle and shine.

💥💥💥💥💥 Five bangs.

Fun female protagonist. Weird female antagonist. Strong writing. This should be a story on Love and Robots.

Fires on all cylinders!

It is funny, gross, suspenseful, unpredictable!

Hall and Beaulieu weave a tale and Ricciardi(new to me) did a great job narrating!

Great creepy short story

I highly enjoyed this book, especially considering this was slightly out of my comfort zone.

You see, I'm not a fan of horror or scary things. In fact, my favorite scary movies are the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. See? Scary/horror is not my realm at all. So while I would consider this sci-fi/horror, true horror fans may laugh at my categorization. That's okay. I'll leave the truly scary stuff to them.

Steve Beaulieu and Aaron Hall did an excellent job at creating a suspenseful atmosphere on a highly intelligent ship with an insane AI. To me, there were truly creepy scenes where I shuddered in enjoyable horror (especially the maggots). For such a short book, I was gripped the entire time - and I wanted more.

I greatly enjoyed Lillie Ricciardi's narration. She was perfect as Sadie and handled the few additional characters very well.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
