Description

I'm bound to a demon.

For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I'm responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer.

Demons are evil.

That's what my textbooks say. That's what I see. He's ruthless; he's temperamental; he's cold. But he protects me without fail. I wonder if he's hiding a heart behind his hostility.

My demon is a monster.

Whether he's heartless or not, my contract with him is illegal and beyond dangerous. Together, we must find a way to return him to his own world before anyone discovers our secret. If that wasn't bad enough, I've come to realize something else: My demon isn't the only monster I should be worried about.

Intense and Intriguing

This series, combined with Guild Codex: Spellbound series and read intertwined correctly creates a universe I want more of. The books are ahead of the audiobooks, but Cris Dukehart has become my Tori and Robin so I am already dying for the next book in the series, and this one JUST came out this week.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes magic, urban fantasy and perhaps mysteries. The world created by Annette Marie is one that is very close to our own and written simple enough to make it feel like 'of course it really does exist'.

In this one we explore more about demons and Demonica, and learn more about some of the other guild members from the Crow and Hammer. Robin is still having trouble fitting in, perhaps more than Tori had even, but if they could all just work together, the things these guild members could accomplish may become legendary.

Enjoyable. Looking forward to next installment

I’ve enjoyed two series now by this author. I read some negative reviews of this book but as I read it in context I didn’t see what they were talking about. Yes, sometimes I wished the heroine, Robin, didn’t retreat, trip and fall on her behind when scared So many times it got a little wearisome, but her character was written as starting out as an extremely shy, non confrontational type and she IS evolving. It’s an interesting premise in this world author built.

Keep them coming Annette!!!

I have to start with the vampire plot. I hate the concept of a vampire actually being a Fae spirit ... and zombie stories all really come from vampires... 😒 Why do these writers feel the need to reinvent the wheel? Just let a vampire be a freaking vampire... and let a werewolf be a freaking werewolf. By the way, in this book, a werewolf is actually just a Fae spirit too... Oh Brother!🤦🏽‍♀️

This is my favorite world from Annette Marie. I find it more entertaining than the Night Realm world. The writing seems geared more toward a older reader than the teenager age range of Night Realm.

In this book, the main character (Robin) wants Zylas (the demon) to be compassionate and caring. It's almost unrealistic. She gets upset with him when there are humans who act the same way. She basically is asking him to be better than a human. Humans can be just as selfish, just as cruel and vindictive... at least he is doing for a reason.

My guess or suspicion is that Robin's cousin is going to end up being the bad guy... maybe she is secretly waiting for Robin to finish translating the Grimoire and then BOOM! She reveals her evil plan.

With that aside, I find myself rooting for the feeble little heroine. Robin is not for everybody. She is embarrassed by everything and timid to the point of being a coward sometimes. For example, when Zylas touches her she blushes and avoids him. It's obvious he doesnt understand, why not just tell him that it's a sign of "mating". Its that simple. He will stop. But instead, she responds like a middle schooler. When she does say something, it's in anger and she comes off as even more immature for not explaining.

Like I said, I do root for her even without her not being my usual strong-willed, holds no punches type of female lead.

Cruel and Abusive Relationship not for me

This is a very first audiobook I have been unable to finish by this author. The relationship between the main character and her demon devolves into childishness on her part, and cruelty on his. I failed to find any sort of appeal or redeeming qualities in their relationship, and find it a struggle to think positively of any of the demons qualities. honestly I'm not sure I'm going to continue on with this book or this series. I'm not into relationships that focus on callous emotional abuse, which is what this has so far been in book two. I guess I will just have to wait for the next book in the other series to come out instead to find out what happens.

So what was the deciding moment that made me quit? Robin needs his help and was childish about it. And then when her life is in danger he stands to the side and lets her be attacked by a vampire. More than that, he just watches while she is scared and terrified, pursued and attacked. Is he going to swoop in at the end and save her just when she was about to die? Is she supposed to be grateful for that? I just couldn't even wait and find out. I literally screamed and almost hurled my phone, instead just shutting off the book.

I'm not into cruelty, not into torture. I don't like emotional abuse or one-sided relationships where one person is empathetic and the other is an apathetic killer. Maybe some people dig the fear enhance relationship or can see past that to the better qualities of this series. all in all, sadly not for me.

Trouble is coming!

This was a crazy Daisy of a read! What the what and how in the heck did that happen?! I have to say that Robin is a total bad mama-jama and I don’t think she realizes that. Her demon of course gets it but he keeps on her in a way that keeps her on her toes. Pushing her when he can.

What she doesn’t expect is that her need to find her uncle, the secret hunting she is doing is about to cross paths with the vampire hunters of the Crow and Hammer. Zora is a bad arse on her own but team her up against vampires and she’s a wicked slayer. She tries to help Robin as they’re “hunting grounds” keep intersecting. Vampires are legit a big issue. Zora and Robin, with the help of Zlyas fight and try to stop whats happening.

There’s only one problem... Zora has seen first hand that Robin is operating as a rogue and hiding in plain sight. This secret could end everything including Robin and Zylas’s lives. It’s going to be a hard road to traverse and I can not wait to see what happens next!
