À propos de ce contenu audio

William I. Thomas was an innovative sociologist who wrote during the first half of the 20th century. He formulated a fundamental principle of sociology known as the Thomas theorem, the insight that situations are real in their consequences if they are accepted by society to be real. Thomas also explored the sociology of migration.

Sex and Society is a collection of essays that explore the biological difference between the sexes, as well as the psychology and sociological aspects of sexuality. Thomas offered a progressive perspective on gender and sexuality, pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration with regard to human affairs.

The AudioLearn version of Sex and Society is preceded by a summary which includes a biography of the author and an exploration of the background of the work itself. Also included are an overview, synopsis, and analysis. The summary is concluded with a discussion of the historical context of Thomas’ work, as well as its social impact and the criticisms it evoked. This is an ideal piece for those interested in psychology and sociology, as well as for any interested in the social perspective of gender and sexuality and how they change through history.
